Now showing through October 25th at the Hannah Hoffman Gallery in Los Angeles is a new body of work from Sam Falls, whose sculptural pieces were also recently displayed MetroTech Center in Brooklyn (covered). What interests fans of this young LA-based artist with a rising star is not just the imagery he produces but his methodology behind it. For these new “paintings,” Falls gathered vegetation from his current house in Venice (palm fronds, birds of paradise), his childhood home in Vermont (ferns), and the woods around his other residence in upstate New York (maple and ash trees). These are placed on top of canvas, sprinkled with pigment, and exposed to the outdoors allowing rain form imprints and silhouettes.
