Ai Weiwei Pours Paint Over Designer Clothes For Magazine V

Last year, V Magazine sent over clothes to Ai Weiwei from 14 young designers carried by Dover Street Market, Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo’s concept store. The Chinese artist was given carte blanche to shoot the garments in any way he saw so he took the opportunity to reference his 2006/2008 Colored Vases series by using the same colors splashed on models wearing what he was sent. Streets: Madsteez x Nike For College Football Playoff National Championship

While Ohio State and Oregon were battling it out for the College Football Playoff National Championship, of which the Buckeyes eventually emerged victorious, Madsteez was already underway painting a mural dedicated to the contest at 3015 at Trinity Groves in Dallas. The California-based artist let the online community decide how the mural unfolded as he took suggestions throughout the creation process. Streets: Greg “Craola” Simkins x Lyte (Redondo Beach)

After a successful showing that opened last month in Los Angeles (covered), Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured) went back to his roots recently and painted something on the streets of Redondo Beach. Collaborating with Lyte, a fellow crew member from CBS/WAI, the duo beautified the wall with their letterforms while throwing out a shout out to 2SHAE in the process. The LA Art Show is set to open today through the end of the weekend at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Like last year, there will be a special section devoted to low brow, pop surrealism, and the new contemporary art movement entitled Littletopia (see 2014). This is where the Roq La Rue booth will reside with works this year from Travis Louie (seen above), Chris Berens, Peter Ferguson, Chie Yoshii, Jeff Jacobson, Femke Hiemstra, and Sail. Coming up in February, the New York City Ballet will be collaborating with their third artist – Dustin Yellin (also see Faile & JR) – in series of special shows. Bringing sculpture into the arena of dance, the performances will feature the Brooklyn-based artist’s signature “window sandwiches” featuring the human form created out of collaged elements. Greg Eason makes a welcome return to London in a two-person exhibition alongside the Bristol-based Anouk Mercier this week entitled CLASSIC/ LUXURY / EXOTIC / ROMANCE (C/L/E/R) at Space W10. For those not familiar with Eason’s graphite drawings, his meticulously detailed and characteristically sparse work isolates narrative fragments within a microscopic frame. Objects become rendered as intricate miniature components within a vast negative space, creating an uneasy sense of depth and scale.
