Currently in the Hamptons, at Eric Firestone Gallery, the San Diego-based Kelsey Brookes has a series of works on display that continue his abstract exploration of molecular structures. Moving on from painting colorful artistic interpretations of neurotransmitters (here, here & here), the former biochemist has turned his attention to naturally occurring hallucinogenic botanical compounds – Muscimol, Ergoline, Scopolamine and Ibogaine – Plants Of The Gods. The renderings mirror the psychedelic effect of the subject matter with what interestingly starts out as “precise locations of individual atoms, which then expand and radiate out from these hyper detailed focal points to cover the canvas’s surface.”
