Last week, Jeff Koons revealed his latest high profile project – a collection he designed with Louis Vuitton. Entitled Masters, the collaboration features 51 different pieces including handbags, scarves, key chains and small leather goods, including wallets and laptop sleeves. The concept behind it all was inspired by the American artist’s Gazing Ball series of paintings from 2015 which featured reproductions of various masterpieces adorned with blue reflective spheres. Indeed, parts of famous works like Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Totian’s Cupid, and Rubens’s The Tiger Hunt are the highlight of the collection which are headlined by LV signature bags like the Speedy, Neverfull, Keepall, and Montaigne. Check it out here.
Koons further “explains” with his artspeak – “They touch on the metaphysical: the right here right now and its connection to the past and the future. They’re about shine, the basics of philosophy, passion, what it means to be a human, what it means to be an animal, the idea of transcendence.”
