One of the installations that grabbed the most attention this year at the Amsterdam Light Festival was a piece by artist Gali May Lucas (Design Bridge). Created with the help of sculptor Karoline Hinz, Absorbed By Light comments on our society’s increasing addiction to our mobile devices. Placed outside the Hermitage and on view through January 20th, the light sculpture plays off the theme of this year’s event – “the medium is the message.”
The British artist further explains – “I see this every day in parks and in restaurants. in previous years, the works in the festival have been visually impressive but abstract – I chose to create something instantly recognisable and, in reality, quite literal. but eerie at the same time.”
