The artist we have chosen to share with you for this week’s Art Focus is Jose Luis Carranza. The Peruvian figurative painter trained at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes del Peru where he received education on classical techniques and then moved on to Europe to further learn from studying works of the old European masters. His portraiture features a striking wide-eyed gaze, bold use of color, thick brushstrokes, and references to both biblical and Incan symbols.
