New York City gallery The Hole brought a taste of the luxurious, wealthy, and extravagant side of Miami to visitors in town during Basel Week Miami. All going down at the historic 1920’s waterfront Villa Vecchia estate, Fresh Basel featured an extensive contemporary art installation, consisting of the gallery’s roster and mainstays, including Matthew Stone, Scott Reeder, Holton Rower, Sayre Gomez, and Lola Schnabel.
Throughout the residency (which lasts from Dec 4 to Dec 9) special performances will go on consisting of live art making, such as Holton Rower making live Pour Paintings, Scott Reeder creating spaghetti paintings, and Jesse Edwards painting the vistas surrounding the home. It also featured Matthew Stone’s Voguer’s Ball, during which he creates new works, Lola Schnabel and John Copeland’s action-bsed figurative painting, and Evan Gruzis’ floating marble mannequin sculpture occupying the pool. Ambitious, well-planned, well-executed, and innovative, Fresh Basel brings a experience totally different from the fair-going routine that swarms Miami this time of year and we look forward to what the next edition will look like.
