Basel Week Miami ’19 / Recap: Leandro Erlich – “Order Of Importance”

During Art Basel Week Miami, Leandro Erlich continued his impressive run of mind bending sculptural installations with a new one entitled Order Of Importance. Commissioned by the city of Miami Beach, the site specific intervention right next the ocean from the Argentinian artist featured a traffic jam of 66 life-sized sculptures of cars and trucks, a reflection of the current climate crisis. The massive project (Erlich’s largest to date) covers roughly two-thirds the length of a football field, with the partially buried vehicles reminding viewers of the sobering reality of Miami as […]

Earlier this week, the 18th edition of Art Basel Miami opened at the Miami Beach Convention Center with 269 galleries, offering artwork by mostly blue chip artists from around the world. Drawing visitors in for the beautiful (albeit chillier than usual this year) weather and gathering of friends and associates, an almost unending selection of paintings, sculptures, installations, photography, film, video, and digital art greeted their eyes (and wallets) as they perused the main fair. Highlights for us included this Austin Lee sculpture (seen above) at the Peres Projects […]

Discuss Andrew Hem here.
