Basel Week Miami ’12: Art Basel Highlights – Part 2

Without a doubt the sun of the art fair solar system that is Basel Week Miami is Art Basel. Concentrating on just this fair and dedicating our energy to catching it in its entirety including the two hundred plus blue chip galleries present took AM two full days (see day one). It was definitely worth the time spent as we observed million of dollars and flowing from collectors into the art world. What was interesting is the more notable influence of a younger generation artists […]

Basel Week Miami ’12: NADA Fair Highlights

With this year’s presentation of the NADA art fair, The New Art Dealers Alliance celebrates ten years presenting the best in new, young, exciting, and emerging art and artists. If the main Art Basel fair has a reputation for having the most well-known and blue chip works, this fair is known for having names and galleries that will soon take the next step to Basel (although there are some galleries that are perfectly content staying at NADA, which speak volumes regarding the quality and support […]

Basel Week Miami ’12: The Miami Project – Highlights

AM found time to visit another fair in Midtown Miami, the inaugural Miami Project earlier this week. Unlike most new fairs, we were impressed by their solid lineup of respected galleries and great facilities. This is perhaps this is due to the experience of the fair’s organizers, artMRKT Productions, who have already held fairs Houston, San Francisco, and the Hamptons. Check out the selection of works below and the a piece from Mel Bochner above… Discuss Basel Week Miami here.

Basel Week Miami ’12: The Hole – “Fresh Basel” @ Villa Vecchia

New York City gallery The Hole brought a taste of the luxurious, wealthy, and extravagant side of Miami to visitors in town during Basel Week Miami.  All going down at the historic 1920’s waterfront Villa Vecchia estate, Fresh Basel featured an extensive contemporary art installation, consisting of the gallery’s roster and mainstays, including Matthew Stone, Scott Reeder, Holton Rower, Sayre Gomez, and Lola Schnabel. Throughout the residency (which lasts from Dec 4 to Dec 9) special performances will go on consisting of live art making, […]

Basel Week Miami ’12: Art Basel Highlights – Part 1

The first art fair AM rolled into at this year’s fairs in Miami was the main Art Basel event. During the early buyer’s preview, we caught many collectors rushing Black Friday style into to their favorite galleries for a chance to buy works from their favorite artists. This was not only the perfect time to beat the crowds see the standout works, but also for celebrity watching as they made their rounds looking for their blue chip artwork. Check out a look at the opening day action […]

Basel Week Miami ’12: Art Asia – Highlights

An art fair we always check out while we are in town for Basel Week Miami is the sister fair of SCOPE – Art Asia. While there perusing gems from the Far East, we are sure to come upon new names to follow as well as catch up with more familiar artists. This year, the sculptures of Qin Weihong (above) caught our eye as well as much of the other talent on display. Take a look at all the photos below… Discuss Basel Week Miami here.

Basel Week Miami ’12: SCOPE – Highlights

This morning, we stopped by to check out one of the other satellite fairs in Miami – SCOPE. The large complex featured many of the galleries and artists that we are familiar with as well as some new discoveries. Also attached to the fair was its usual partner – Art Asia which we will cover in a followup article.  For now, check out all the images including a stunning portrait from Sas Christian (ab0ve). Basel Week Miami ’12: CONTEXT Art Miami – Highlights

Despite with the brazen display of jacked Banksy’s at the new CONTEXT Art Miami, there was a pretty good selection of work displayed. As with most fairs, there were artists that we recognized which have been featured on the pages of AM before and also new artists to be discovered that we were excited about. For example, check out the Jorge Santos piece (seen above) that was at the 101/Exhibit booth (more on the rest of their lineup later). For, now enjoy a overview of […]

Basel Week Miami ’12: Michael Kohn Gallery

With the press preview this morning opening up the main fair at Basel Week Miami, the crew at AM headed to South Beach to check out all the blue-chip galleries and their offerings for 2012. Although there is an overwhelming of art to show you, we have start somewhere and this year it is the Michael Kohn booth. Check out their varied selections of work including a meat sculpture from Mark Ryden, a beautiful new painting from Camille Rose Garcia, as well as works from […]

Basel Week Miami ’12 / Preview: Scott Scheidly @ SCOPE / Spoke Art

Like the ArtPadSF in San Francisco earlier this year (covered), Scott Scheidly will be showing more works from his series of unusual portraits – this time at the SCOPE art fair in Miami (part of Basel Week Miami). The Orlando-based Schneidly will be one of the featured artists at the Spoke Art booth (along with Jessica Hess), so head over if you are in town to check out his tyrants, dictators, and other pop culture icons re-imagined in a different context.
