New York City gallery The Hole brought a taste of the luxurious, wealthy, and extravagant side of Miami to visitors in town during Basel Week Miami. The first art fair AM rolled into at this year’s fairs in Miami was the main Art Basel event. During the early buyer’s preview, we caught many collectors rushing Black Friday style into to their favorite galleries for a chance to buy works from their favorite artists. An art fair we always check out while we are in town for Basel Week Miami is the sister fair of SCOPE – Art Asia. While there perusing gems from the Far East, we are sure to come upon new names to follow as well as catch up with more familiar artists. This morning, we stopped by to check out one of the other satellite fairs in Miami – SCOPE. The large complex featured many of the galleries and artists that we are familiar with as well as some new discoveries. Despite with the brazen display of jacked Banksy’s at the new CONTEXT Art Miami, there was a pretty good selection of work displayed. As with most fairs, there were artists that we recognized which have been featured on the pages of AM before and also new artists to be discovered that we were excited about. Like the ArtPadSF in San Francisco earlier this year (covered), Scott Scheidly will be showing more works from his series of unusual portraits – this time at the SCOPE art fair in Miami (part of Basel Week Miami). The Orlando-based Schneidly will be one of the featured artists at the Spoke Art booth (along with Jessica Hess), so head over if you are in town to check out his tyrants, dictators, and other pop culture icons re-imagined in a different context. Those visiting the PULSE fair next week in Miami will have to keep their eyes our for an installation from the Los Angeles-based Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed). The project made possible by LeBasse Projects and Perrier will be over 24′ long and consist of 120 new cast sculptures in the same vein as his do you remember me… installation for his solo in 2010. Those making it out to Basel Week Miami this year, make sure you stop by The Delano to check out David Lynch’s fictional club, the Silencio, reproduced in real life. If you recall, Club Silencio is the unusual nightclub of the same name in his 2001 film Mulholland Drive. Lynch has already created a replica in Paris by working on the interiors, including personally designing the furniture, but this will the first appearance for Basel.
