Setup: Moniker Art Fair – London 2010

We’re in London excited for the upcoming Moniker Art Fair on October 14th-17th (coinciding with Frieze Art Fair). It looks to be a rad event with many of the galleries that you’ve come to love on AM exhibiting like New Image Art, Carmichael Gallery, Black Rat Projects, CampBarbossa, Galleria Patricia Armocida and Anonymous Gallery. We caught the setup as the crews are busy setting up site specific installations. Steve “ESPO” Powers & Faith47 were on hand to create gorgeous murals on the outside of the […]

Beyond Eden ‘10: Shark Toof – Installation @ LeBasse Projects

Shark Toof debuted his first ever solo show with Culver City’s LeBasse Projects at Beyond Eden this past weekend. The prolific street artist mounted a visual assault utilizing his array of signature imagery, including sharks, cigarette boxes, comics and monsters. Using materials such as wood, spray cans, boxes, found materials and books, the artist filled nearly the entire space with art work. One wall featuring giant panels of screen-printed swimming sharks over a collaged and painted background would have been even larger if not for […]

Beyond Eden ‘10: Bumblebee – “Bed Bugs” @ Carmichael Gallery

We at AM have been following Bumblebee’s work for a long time now and are now happy to provide coverage of his first ever solo exhibition. The buzzing and buzzed-about artist treated the Beyond Eden crowd to imagery of bees, children, environmental awareness and the joys of childhood, in an installation and collection of works that included sculpture and paintings. The colorful show was one of the top highlights of the entire fair and we are happy to hear that it completely sold out. See […]

Frieze 2010: Ryan McGinley @ Team Gallery

The Frieze Art Fair is soon upon us. Occupying Team Gallery’s booth at Frieze will be a group show consisting of a few of their represented artists. Among them is Ryan McGinley, who will be showing photos from his most recent road trip, as well as more b&w studio portraits of models with exotic animals.  AM readers might also be interested in Banks Violette, who will be showing his first large-scale, text-based installation. The piece seems to announce a impending apocalypse, so prepare yourselves. More […]

Beyond Eden ’10: Bumblebee Installation

If you remember the last time we brought you a look at a Bumblebee installation, you know you are in for a treat this weekend at the Beyond Eden Art Fair (previewed). The Los Angeles-based street artist, best known for his sculptural works involving his namesake will also be showing a new body of work at the Carmichael Gallery booth. Take a look at more installation setup pics after the jump…

Gallery, and Carmichael Gallery alongside a special exhibition showcasing Cannibal Flower’s 10 Year Anniversary. With some of our favorite new contemporary galleries included, AM is excited to see what this year’s edition has to bring. Along with gallery booths, there will be many associated art events and activities. For example, the opening […]

Preview: Dave White – “Forgotten Alchemy” @ Art Copenhagen

Currently showing over in Denmark at this year’s Art Copenhagen is Dave White’s “Forgotten Alchemy”. The series is a little different from the signature sneaker paintings he is famous for, but you can definitely see his style come through with these gun renderings. The new body of work will also include sculptures and drawings. More images after the jump…

Teaser: Andrew Hem @ Art San Diego Contemporary Art Fair

Our friend Amanda recently posted up an image of Andrew Hem’s (interviewed) sketchbooks, scattered gloriously about with pages open revealing this and that. In essence, these gouache “sketches” are mini-paintings and a selection will be available from LeBasse Projects at next month’s Art San Diego Contemporary Art Fair. As a whole, the work is a summary of Andrew’s many travels as he stops occasionally to paint a scene that impressed him for one reason or another. Via Erratic Phenomena. Discuss Andrew Hem here.

Basel Week Switzerland ’10: Volta6

The last fair we attended while in Switzerland was Volta6, and although it was way across town from Art Basel (covered, part 1 and 2) and Scope (covered), in a somewhat industrial part of the city, we were glad we made the trek. Unlike VoltaNY (covered), Volta6 was not focused on single-artist booths, so the smaller fair offered visitors a large range of interesting emerging artists.

Basel Week Switzerland ’10: Scope Fair

Part of the fun of going to the big art fairs like Art Basel is also going to all the satellite fairs, and one of our favorites is always Scope. Like in Miami and NYC, Scope Basel gave us a chance to see emerging and mid-career artists that are generally not represented at the main fair. Check out our images from Scope Basel, after the jump.
