With various members of AM heading to Basel Week Miami as we speak, we’ll continue to preview some of the art that we will be checking out later this week. One of the booths packed with goodness at the PULSE fair will hold offerings from the Joshua Liner Gallery in the form of art from artists David Ellis, Evan Hecox, Ian Francis, Kris Kuksi (above), Mars-1, Oliver Vernon, Stephen Powers, Tomokazu Matsuyama, and Tony Curanaj. Basel Week Miami ’12 / Upcoming: Yoskay Yamamoto Installation @ PULSE

Those visiting the PULSE fair next week in Miami will have to keep their eyes our for an installation from the Los Angeles-based Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed). The project made possible by LeBasse Projects and Perrier will be over 24′ long and consist of 120 new cast sculptures in the same vein as his do you remember me… installation for his solo in 2010. Basel Week Miami ’12 / Upcoming: David Lynch “Silencio” Night Club @ The Delano

Those making it out to Basel Week Miami this year, make sure you stop by The Delano to check out David Lynch’s fictional club, the Silencio, reproduced in real life. If you recall, Club Silencio is the unusual nightclub of the same name in his 2001 film Mulholland Drive. Lynch has already created a replica in Paris by working on the interiors, including personally designing the furniture, but this will the first appearance for Basel. This year, Art Hong Kong had a special booth that was not hosted by a gallery, but an automotive company. BMW, long a sponsor of the arts with their Art Car program in where legends like Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, Jeff Koons and Alexander Calder were recruited to design the exterior of their flagship sports car. One of the featured artists at Art Hong Kong this year was Yayoi Kusama. Her revolutionary style of dots and environmental immersion has received distinction from both Western and Asian art institutions. Even fashion icon Louis Vuitton has recently honored her creativity with a collaborative project that kicks off this season. Several months ago at the ADAA Art Show, we caught some new work from Yoshitomo Nara as he made his solo fair debut with Pace Gallery. The entire booth was filed with a variety of Nara’s signature works on paper. Lined up by time periods, attendees such as Damien Hirst and some of New York’s top collectors visiting the booth got a chance to see some of Nara’s older works and understand the progression to the current blue-chip stage of his career. Another booth we spent time at during Art HK was the one stocked by Takashi Murakami’s Kaikai Kiki gallery. Their booth held a solo feature for Rei Sato and her latest body of work entitled All Monsters Hold Secrets in Their Grasp.
