On May 8th (11 am HKT), Yue Minjun will be releasing a set of two sculptural editions entitled SURPLUS VALUE. Known for his smiling self portraits, the Chinese artist has teamed up with AllRightsReserved to bring you a three dimensional representation of his most famous motif. Showing: Hajime Sorayama x Dior Traveling Pop-Up Store

Following up on the reveal (covered) of the incorporation of his work in Dior’s Pre-Fall 2019 Collection, Hajime Sorayama has now helped design a traveling pop-up store for North America. Constructed from metal, the structure draws from the futuristic theme of the campaign and matches of course the Japanese artist’s signature sexy robot, of which a 5 meter tall version will stand guard outside. Releases: Erik Jones – “Flower” Print

Tomorrow (May 2nd) at 10M PST, Erik Jones will be releasing a limited edition print entitled Flower. The image is taken from a piece that the recently exhibited in London (covered), a good example of the color-infused portraiture he is know for. Produced in an edition of 50, the 24″ x 24″ print will be available thru Hashimoto Contemporary on their online store. Earlier this month, Galleri Benoni in Copenhagen opened up a solo exhibition from Paco Pomet entitled No Places. Earlier this week, the West 24th Street location of the Gagosian Gallery in New York opened a solo show from Jonas Wood featuring new paintings and works on paper. The fresh selection of work continues his use of art references, plants, everyday objects, and people in architectural interiors and exteriors, as well as a series of his depictions of pots and ceramic vessels. Each painting in the exhibition is accompanied by a corresponding small-scale work on paper with all 30 works featured in a fully illustrated catalogue. Releases: Jose Parla – “Tokyo : Chance Operation” Bal Collecton

Besides an upcoming show in New York (covered), fans of Jose Parla will also be interested to know that he recently collaborated with bal on a collection. Tokyo: Chance Operation features a series of sweaters, hoodies, t-shirts, and bags accented by the New York-based artist’s unique imagery. Parla’s richly textured references to urban walls as well as graffiti inspired calligraphic elements are integrated throughout the line, fitting nicely with the brand’s aesthetic. Showing through last weekend, Ceci n’est pas un dessin, c’est une situation at Galerie Julien Cadet in Paris featured the instantly recognizable work of James Jarvis (interviewed). For an artist where drawing plays such a big role in his practice, the exhibition presented a further evolution of his work where his drawings were featured as the object – in flat sculptural form. Case Studyo recently unveiled a collaboration they worked on with Japanese artist Keiichi Tanaami entitled GOLDFISH GIRL. The resulting stool looks like it comes straight out of one of the renowned artist’s psychedelic paintings and features much of what makes Tanaami’s work so distinctive – a garish palette, surreal touches like the exposed frontal lobe, and a bold graphic style. Coming up next month (May 10th), Mesa Contemporary Art Museum will be opening Petrichor, a mid career retrospective dedicated to the dark and surreal vision of Esao Andrews. Featuring 20 iconic paintings contributed by collectors around the world, the showing from the Mesa, Arizona native will also include never seen before pieces, 70 skatedecks he has designed in the past, as well as a site specific mural.
