Previews: Nate Frizzell – “Dark Was The Night” @ CHG Circa

This Saturday night in Los Angeles, Nate Frizzell (interviewed) will be presenting all new paintings at CHG Circa entitled Dark Was The Night. Working primarily with a black background, the new perspective referenced in the title of the show provides a stark new background that really make his imagery pop. The fresh pieces will continue to feature his portraiture of children and different wild creatures as well as his familiar exploration of identity thru the use of costumes. Releases: James Jean – “Seasons” Print

On November 18th, next Tuesday, starting at 8:00 AM PST, James Jean (interviewed) will be releasing another timed edition. Entitled Seasons, it will have an image size of 22.25 x 37″ and paper size of 24 x 40″, and will cost $200. Anyone ordering it 24 hours after the start time will get one (never to be released again) with the run determined by demand. Head over here at the appropriate time to add it to your collection. Previews: Mars-1, Damon Soule, Oliver Vernon – “Momentum” @ Space Gallery

After dipping their feet into the waters of the Denver art community with a mural a few months back (covered),  Mars-1, Damon Soule, and Oliver Vernon return tonight with a full plunge. Momentum at Space Gallery features the Furtherrr Collective together again (see 2012, 2013, 2013) with a showing that highlights how well their imagery go together – whether it is in collaborative pieces or collectively when their individual works are seen side by side. Streets: Vhils (Los Angeles)

Over the last several days, Vhils (filmed) has been busy working his magic in downtown Los Angeles with some new murals arranged by LeBasse Projects. The last time we saw him in the area was in 2011 when we have the chance to catch some of the footage of his unique mark-making in the streets. This newest piece features the Portuguese artist’s portraiture chiseled into this wall near Chinatown as per his usual technique. Project M/6 (Berlin) – Part II

Last week, we brought you a look at some artists prepping for their window installations for the M/6 phase (curated by Jonathan LeVine) of the ongoing art program for Urban Nation. We now have some in situ pics of the pieces for you to enjoy. Along with the windows from Dan Witz, Jeff Soto, Nychos, Olek and Saner, artists Alo, ONUR & WES21 and CANVAZ were seen putting up their work in Berlin. This Friday, November 7th, the Archimedes Gallery in Cannon Beach, Oregon (just west of Portland) will be opening a group show entitled Thoughts on a Grey Day. Showing: Modernica Chair Group Show @ Soze Gallery

Last Saturday night, Soze Gallery in Los Angeles opened a group exhibition that highlighted the form of the Modernica chair, seen through the lens of each participant’s artistic vision. Friends and artists who show with the gallery, created custom one of a kind versions of the chair with their signature styles and techniques with part of the proceeds going to benefit The Art Of Elysium, a non-profit organization that brings empowering artistic programs to children in the local hospitals in the area. Releases: Audrey Kawasaki – “Manic” Print

On November 8th, at 12 PM PST, Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) will be releasing her latest print thru her online store. The image chosen, entitled Manic, was one of the paintings from her recent show (covered) at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. The generously sized print measures 16.75″x30″ (includes 1/8″ white border), comes signed and numbered in an edition of 250, and will cost $270 (framed for $495). Showing: “Hello! Exploring the Supercute World of Hello Kitty” @ JANM

Showing through April of next year at the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) is an exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of Hello Kitty. Although the subject matter is not for everyone, some of the artists involved in this show in Los Angeles certainly should be familiar to our readers, including Colin Christian (interviewed) who contributed the piece seen above.
