Previews: Sail – “Canna Intrat” @ Roq La Rue

On October 2nd, Seattle will see a new solo from Sail (featured) opening at Roq La Rue entitled Canna Intrat. The Northwest artist will be revisiting the gallery (see 2013) with new ink drawings on paper featuring darkly atmospheric portraits of his characters surrounded by shadows and vegetation. The strikingly detailed works almost seem like photos, with his mysterious subjects posed to “represent the promise of rebirth after death or catastrophe.” More preview images below… Discuss Sail here.

Streets: Conor Harrington / L.I.S.A. Project (New York) – Part I

While in town for his popup show in New York (more on this later), Conor Harrington (interviewed) made sure to leave his mark on the streets for his fans. One of the murals he worked on was for the L.I.S.A. Project on Rivington and Suffolk and featured one of his colonial style characters painted in his combined loose and photorealistic style. Check out more in progress photos below… Photo credit: Joe Russo for Arrested Motion. Discuss Conor Harrington here.

Openings: D*Face – “Scars & Stripes” (Los Angeles)

Over the weekend, AM headed out to Los Angeles to check out a solo from D*Face (interviewed) at a popup location in West Hollywood (315 S. Robertson Blvd). Greeted by an installation featuring a giant D*Dog sculpture crushing a police cruiser with full on smoke, fans were hyped up to enter the gallery space to take in a new body work from the British street artist. Inside, attendees were treated to portraits of actors, celebrities, and musicians, remixed in D’s signature aesthetic as well as his recognizable Lichtenstein-influenced […]

After collaborating on a whimsical new mural with Brendan Monroe in Portland, Souther Salazar headed south to work on a project for the 2014 TEDMED conference at The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. Fashion: Sterling Ruby x Raf Simons x Kate Moss

Kate Moss, who has been a muse for many an artist, was recently decked out in new Sterling Ruby painted parkas and photographed for AnOther Magazine. The paint-splattered limited edition garments, which would apparently cost you about the price of a car, are part of Dior creative director Raf Simons’ Fall/Winter 2014 collection. You can see the rest of the collaborative effort between Ruby and Simons here. Photo credit: Willy Vanderperre / AnOther Magazine (via Supertouch). Discuss Sterling Ruby here.
