Upcoming: Paul Wackers – “Early Romantics” @ New Image Art

Later tonight (February 16), New Image Art will be presenting all new works from the Brooklyn-based Paul Wackers. Building on the last solo show we witnessed back in 2011 in New York (covered), Wackers continues exploring his form of still life painting which takes the additional step of adding geometric and abstract elements, but also evokes memories of the work of old master artists. Studio Visit: Melissa Haslam – “Floating Garden” @ LeBasse Projects

Returning to the botanical imagery that she has worked on in the past, painter Melissa Haslam (featured) will be opening a show at LeBasse Projects on March 2nd. Entitled Floating Garden, the new body of work will highlight how the Melbourne-based artist has furthered refined her form of portraiture. Mark Ryden Designs Album Cover For Tyler, The Creator

Odd Future leader Tyler, The Creator recently released images (three of them) that will be used for the cover art of his new album – Wolf. One of these versions was created by none other than Mark Ryden, who if you remember has had experience with album cover design (Michael Jackson’s Dangerous). POW WOW ’13 (Part I)

With POW WOW 2013 in full swing, AM made the rounds yesterday to check out the progress as murals were going up all around the Kakaʻako district in Honolulu. Some of the artists featured at work in this first set of photos include Jeff Soto, Nychos, 123Klan, Angry Woebots, Dabs Myla, Madsteez, Shark Toof, Katch, Slick, and Rone & Wonderlust – who are collaborating on the mural seen above. Videos / Releases: JR – “Action in Kesennuma, Japan” Lithograph

Back in November, French photograffeur JR headed to Japan and toured the disaster area, furthering his Inside Out project in the area – dedicated to the victims of the tsunami.  If you remember, one of the most poignant images from that trip was the pasting of the eyes of a local fisherman on a boat that was stranded and abandoned as the water receded. Streets: Herakut – The Giant Storybook Project (Part II)

Videos: José Parlá: Broken Language

On the occasion of José Parlá’s return to London for a solo showing at Haunch of Venison, NOWNESS has released a new video titled the same – Broken Language. The mini-documentary follows the NY-based artist through the entire process starting with an explanation of the philosophy behind his work, the photo reference acquisition, the creation of the actual paintings and sculptural pieces.
