Streets: Vhils (Brazil)

After hitting up a slate of festivals recently (Komafest, Walk & Talk, and Fame Festival), Portuguese sensation Vhils has headed over to Brazil for a project of his own. These new pieces created through some of the favelas of Rio de Janeiro attempt to bring attention to the inhabitants of these slum areas. Next month in New York, gifted painter Aron Wiesenfeld will be unveiling another set of new works (see 2011) at the Arcadia Gallery. If the painting below (The Garden), which will be part of the show, is any indication, then fans of Wiesenfeld’s dreamlike landscapes and emotive characters will want to show up for the opening on November 10th. This particular piece also made the cover of the current American Art Collector. Discuss this show here. Discuss Aron Wiesenfeld here.

More than 30 people have worked on the inflatable figure over a period of roughly seven months make into reality the concept sketch we showed you back in May. Preview: Nathan Ota – “Pop! Goes the Weasel” @ La Luz de Jesus

While hanging out at this year’s Baby Tattooville, LA-based painter Nathan Ota told us about his upcoming show at La Luz de Jesus. Entitled Pop! Goes the Weasel, the new work incoporates much of the imagery that we have come expect from Ota – the birds, the tree man, the eggs, and now references to “COOZ”, an alias from his graffiti past. Take a look at the preview images below and head over to the gallery on opening night, November 2nd, if you are interested in seeing more. […]

Other notable walls this week come courtesy of Augustine Kofie – Italy (source), Aryz – Peurto Rico (source), Case – Germany (source), Escif – Croatia & Spain, Gaia – Philadelphia, Sam3 […]

Videos: Ai Weiwei Covers Psy’s “Gangnam Style”

It looks like Chinese contemporary artist and political dissident Ai Weiwei recently released a parody video of the viral video sensation Gangnam Style. In this cover of Psy’s smash hit, the footage alternates from actual scenes from the music video to AWW and his studio staff dancing to the song including the now-famous horse dance moves. As to the reason for the remix – perhaps the title “Grass-Mud Horse Style” gives a clue as it is a reference to a Chinese Internet meme that uses a pun that […]
