Openings: Glenn Barr – “Faces & Small Epics” @ MondoPop

After showing at La Luz de Jesus in June, Glenn Barr has opened his next show, this time in Italy. Held at MondoPop in Rome, Faces & Small Epics is billed as the Detroit-based painter’s first European solo. From the looks of things, Barr brought with him some new paintings, drawings, and prints for this exhibition and you certainly want to stop by if you are in the area to check it out before it closes on December 3rd. More photos after the jump via […]

Openings: Osgemeos – “Fermata” @ Museu Vale (Brazil)

Words cannot begin to describe the wonderment and joy one feels when confronted by these photos of the new Osgemeos exhibition at the Museu Vale in Brazil. It seems the twins always seem to save their best for the museums in their home country (see Vertigo and Vertigem), as well they should. From the complex sculptural builds featuring intricate inclusions of various art items and paraphernalia, to the grand expansion of the well received multi-colored stripes seen in some of their recent work, to their […]

Streets: Wynwood Walls Update (Miami) Part II

Wow, it looks like Wynwood Walls is really trying to the get the jump on this year’s US rendition of Art Basel. After alerting you to some RETNA activity down in Miami and then a subsequent update (ROA, Gaia, Nunca, HOW & NOSM, the Date Farmers, Faile, and Bast), it’s time for another look as Kenny Scharf, Interesni Kazki, and Saner & Sego have rolled into town and we have some new pieces from the Date Farmers and Vhils as well. More photos after the […]

Jasper Wong – “Little Shop of Wonder” @ Loft In Space

Loft In Space, the site of this year’s (covered) and next year’s POW WOW, was recently converted into a giant coloring book by gallery director Jasper Wong. The very busy and versatile designer, artist, illustrator, and curator is also one of the co-owners of Above Second Gallery in Hong Kong, site of an Arrested Motion group show at the end of next month. For this project, entitled Little Shop of Wonder, the 60 feet of wall space took two days of hard work for Jasper to […]

Preview: Evan Hecox – “BOROUGH and LANE” @ StolenSpace

Last time we caught up with Evan Hecox, it was back in 2009 at his New York solo. On November 3rd, it will be our friends across the pond who will have the opportunity to check a new body of work from the San Francisco-based artist. BOROUGH and LANE will be hosted by StolenSpace and feature a collection of works inspired by the city of London, focusing on parts of the former industrial and working-class areas like east to Shoreditch and Hoxton, to the side-streets […]

Preview: “13th Hour” @ Last Rites

Halloween is just around the corner, and with it there is sure to be much art-related news. We’ll start things off with the annual 13th Hour group exhibition at Last Rites Gallery. Their roster of artists are well suited to use holiday as their muse because the New York gallery supports purveyors of dark surrealism with shows all year round. This 4th rendition of the show opens on October 28th and will feature a lineup of Shawn Barber, Nick Baxter, Matthew Bone, Paul Booth, Colin Christian, […]

Streets: Know Hope (Gambia)

Another participant (also see ROA) of the Wide Open Walls project in Gambia was muralist Know Hope. The Israel-based street poet is certainly a good choice to uplift the rural area, hopefully increasing tourism by transforming the area into a living art village. While there, he painted multiple walls including one that feature a thought bubble for “residents to use as a bulletin board for messages, notes, secrets and hopes.” More photos after the jump via Unurth.

Videos / Streets: D*Face – Moniker Mural (London)

As mentioned in one of our recent Streets World Roundup and London Instagram Roundup articles, D*Face (interviewed) recently painted a mural for this year’s Moniker Art Fair. Well, D just sent over this video (filmed and edited by Rebels Alliance) of the entire process which was interesting as there was some discussson as to who painted over the logo. It looks like he lived up to his name… Also, we’ll have more for you soon as he will be opening a show on November 2nd at […]

Preview: Kelsey Brookes – “Desires of the Soul” @ The Outsiders

It’s been almost a year since Kelsey Brookes (featured) had a solo show, and if you remember, it was held at Circleculture in Berlin. The time since then has been spent in the studio getting together a new body of work (30 new paintings, 13 sculptures, drawings, and more) ready for Desires of the Soul, his newest exhibition set to open on November 3rd at The Outsiders in London. A show six years in the making, it certainly sounds like something you should attend. More […]

Openings: David Jien – “The Plight of the Who” @ Richard Heller Gallery

We are a little late on these photos, but last month, we stopped by the Richard Heller Gallery in West LA to catch the opening of David Jien’s solo exhibition. Entitled The Plight of the Who, the new body of work really put the LA-based artist’s attention to detail and imaginative epic landscapes on display. His fantasy and science fiction tinged narratives, some of it risque, invited attendees to immerse themselves in his world and wonder what stories Jien was trying to get across. Make […]
