Baby Tattooville ’11: Goodie Bag

We still have a couple more things to cover before we close the book on this year’s Baby Tattooville. One of these is the much anticipated “goodie bag” that attendees to the annual art retreat receive at the end of the weekend. Besides the sweet Diesel Fuel print set and reproduction of the Art Jam painting, a collection of other limited editions, drawings, and art paraphernalia was given away just before the trip home. More detailed photos after the jump by Carlos Gonzalez.

It’s time for another roundup of the new walls this week here on AM. Although not exactly immediately recent, this mural from Mesa in particular caught our eye. Openings: Takashi Murakami – “Homage to Yves Klein” @ Galerie Perrotin

Last night, Homage to Yves Klein opened at the Galerie Perrotin in Paris. As the title suggests, the newest solo from Takashi Murakami was a tribute to Klein, the late French artist who is considered a leading proponent of Nouveau réalisme and developer of the famous International Klein Blue (IKB). This deep blue color was used liberally by the Japanese in his flower and skull motifs for this show as well as one of the monochromatic works that was offered in this new body of […]

Showing: ROA – “Paradox” @ FORM Gallery

If you remember back in July, Belgium street phenomena, ROA, had a showing at the Skalitzers in Berlin. Now the good people at that gallery have arranged a show (which opened last night “down under”) for him at the FORM Gallery in Perth entitled Paradox. Like with his participation in the Wide Open Walls project in Gambia, ROA worked in some easily recognizable local creatures that are unique due to Australia’s long geographic isolation. Releases: Retna – “Black on Black” Print

For those of you who like the sexy black on black action from RETNA (featured) that we have been seeing recently like at the New Image Art booth for this year’s Art Platform or his work with Chanel at their flagship store in Beverly Hills, you are in luck. It looks like he’s been working on a new limited edition in a similar vein with print powerhouse Modern Multiples for a future release. More behind-the-scenes pics after the jump, but for inquiries please contact [email protected] or […]

Openings: Gajin Fujita – “Made in L.A.” @ L.A. Louver

L.A. Louver recently hosted the opening of Gajin Fujita newest solo Made in L.A, his first in Los Angeles in over five years. The American-born child of Japanese immigrants was raised in East LA, with the resulting upbringing leading to a fusion of traditional Eastern techniques and iconography with elements of Western and urban life in his art. The resulting work, which also includes collaborative elements with his graffiti crew K2S (Kill to Succeed), features visually arresting disparate imagery like opposing samurai charging each other on […]

Preview: Jeremy Fish & Kenichi Yokono – “Rise of the Underground” @ Mark Moore

At the end of the month in Los Angeles, the Mark Moore Gallery will play host to two artists whose work at first glance have nothing much in common, but when you consider their use of woodworking and the surreal imagery, you begin to see the reason for the pairing. For Rise of the Underground, Jeremy Fish (featured) will be presenting his perfectly cut silhouette paintings featuring his animal characters using some unique modes of transportation (sometimes being the transportation themselves). Showing jointly alongside Fish […]

Teaser: Arrested Motion – “East West Connect” @ Above Second (Hong Kong)

For those in Hong Kong, we are excited to announce our first ever curatorial project to be hosted by the Above Second Gallery at the end of next month. East West Connect will feature artists who hail from an Asian background and/or those who have utilized imagery inspired by the Far East in the past. Themes to be explored include ideas of identity for those who have dual cultural allegiances, melding and fusion of artistic influences, and the discussion of the work when brought into […]

Streets: Escif for Festival “Le 4eme Mur” (France)

After working his magic in Norway with several murals for the Nuart Festival, it looks like the next destination for Spanish street dynamo Escif was France. He took some time to immerse himself in the city of Niort (“history, economical, old factory, architectures, silence of street without cars and ghost in a castel”) before working on some walls for the Festival “Le 4eme Mur” (The 4th Wall). More photos after the jump…
