Streets: WK Interact – “Project Brave”

Over the weekend, New Yorker’s received a new mural to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, courtesy of WK Interact. Project Brave is a huge 328 foot wall piece located on Kent Avenue (between North 4th & North 5th Streets) that paid tribute to the firefighters and memorialized the tragedy through the kinetic imagery of the NY-based street artist and will be on display until October 11th. AM photographer Joe Russo was on scene to document the install with the full photoset after the jump.  […]

Fame Festival ’11: Escif

Escif recently made the stop in Grottaglie for some last minute additions as the Fame Festival opening will roll around in the next couple weeks (see other artists who have already have done their part here). In addition to this giant tiger, the Spanish street artist also worked on some walls with his signature characters as well as a text-based piece. More after the jump…

Streets: Mentalgassi for Getxo Photo 2011 (Spain)

For this fifth edition of the festival dedicated to photography, GETXOPHOTO, that takes place in Spain, Berlin collective Mentalgassi decided to create four spherical portraits and float them in the sea. Known for creatively wheatpasting over existing urban objects, this time they decided to take control of the entire process to produce these “elderly swimmers.” Take a look at more photos as well as video from Fermin Aio and Aitor Gisasola after the jump…

Streets: Liqen – “Monkey” (Mexico)

Spanish street artist Liqen, who’s skills remind us of a hybrid of the great Italians, Ericailcane and Blu, recently completed this clever new mural in the city San Cristóbal de las Casas in Chiapas, Mexico. Perhaps influenced by the recent prequel Rise of the Planet of the Apes movie, the painter, now based in Mexico, turns the tables on the humans with this wall as a curious primate examines his find. More photos after the jump from Unurth.

Preview: Damien Hirst – “Legend” & “Myth” @ Chatsworth House

Currently on view at the Chatsworth House grounds in the UK through October 31st is the annual Sotheby’s Beyond Limits sculpture exhibition. Included in this year’s showing are two new works from Damien Hirst entitled Legend and Myth, which are his dissected portrayals of a winged horse and a unicorn. This new series of work appears to be an extension of his signature formaldehyde animals, with a focus now on mythical creatures. The sculptures are up for sale and range from the 1930s to the […]

Streets: El Mac – “Spirit of Summer” (Canada)

As summer is drawing to an end, AM thought we would draw attention to this mural from Los Angeles-based El Mac, who recently visited one of his favorite cities, Montreal, Canada. Entitled Spirit of Summer, this piece is an interpretation of a young Rose Phillips, the namesake of the neighborhood this is in, Rosemont. More in progress photos from the master of can control after the jump…

Streets: Phlegm (London)

As you saw in our London Instagram Roundup last week, Phlegm was in London recently and painted some of the walls of the Foundry Building on Old Street with his signature characters. It looks like the Sheffield-based street muralist hasn’t finished with Shoreditch yet as he recently added this airship piece at the Zetland House to the long list of fantastical vessels he’s painted in the past, although this time he’s taking to the skies instead of to the water. More photos from unusualimage after the […]

Last Saturday night, Honor Fraser unveiled KAWS’ latest exhibit named Hold The Line to large crowds and fans of the New York-based artist. In our previous article, we brought you an in-depth look at the paintings and sculptural work from the street turned contemporary artist. For the second part of our coverage, take a look at the actual opening where KAWS greeted and talked to collectors, friends, and admires alike, even taking time to sign and sketch in some books. More photos after the jump […]
