Streets: WK Interact (Paris)

It looks like Paris recently received a hefty dose of WK Interact and also may have gotten a glimpse at a different side of the NY-based artist. The bondage-inspired works were considerably smaller than the huge mural WK just completed in Mexico (covered), but nevertheless, still made a strong impact on the City of Lights. Video: Barry McGee “TRANSFER” Footage

You may remember earlier this year, July to be exact, when we shared some photos with you of the traveling museum exhibition TRANSFER when it opened at the Brazilian Cultural Pavilion. Well, Barry McGee, whom we last saw at Art Basel Week, had a part in that exhibition and here is footage to prove it. Take a look at some rare moments captured on video as he painted and prepped for his installation at the museum. Via Known Gallery. Discuss Barry McGee here.

Openings: Cleon Peterson – “Daybreak” @ New Image Art

Revelries of unrestrained passions, secret desires, and violent indulgences invaded the New Image Art Gallery recently with the opening of Cleon Peterson’s newest show – Daybreak (previewed). Drawing inspiration from Nietzsche’s Daybreak: Reflections on Moral Prejudices, Peterson seeks to graphically explore both the light and dark sides of the human condition. As you will see, in addition to his usual action-packed landscapes, there were also some interesting abstract works included in this new body of work. More opening images after the jump…

Allison Sommers’ Hand-Painted Book

Inspired by her recent visit to the NY Art Book Fair (where we spied Tauba Auerbach’s upcoming pop-up book), Allison Sommers (interviewed) decided to work on a project of her own. The resulting labor of love was GK:2, a beautiful handpainted and hand-sewn art book put together using watercolor paper and bound by wallpaper scraps. You can read more about her process on her blog, and take a look at more pics after the jump…

Openings: “Atrophic Existence” @ Show & Tell

A couple Saturdays ago, Show & Tell Gallery played host to a cohesive group show from Kevin Cyr (interviewed), Mike Shankman, Jeff Gillette, Joshua Barndt, and Alex Lukas entitled Atrophic Existence. Along with some pretty nice pieces from a group of painters whose work focuses on urban decay and disintegration, Gillette also brought some beautiful sculptural renderings of his shantytown structures and you could not miss the massive central installation from Barndt entitled The World is a Mountain and Everything Gets Buried. Teaser: Erik Mark Sandberg – “Get Pretty Now” @ Jonathan LeVine

Opening up the new year for Jonathan LeVine on January 22 will be the stylish and furry ladies of Erik Mark Sandberg. Get Pretty Now will feature what used to be the hairy children from the Los Angeles based artist who now appear to be all grown up. Make sure you stop by to check out the mixed media pieces put together through a painstaking process of silkscreen, resin, glitter, oils, acylics, airbrush, and more. Discuss this show here. Videos: JR – “Women Are Heroes”

It looks like JR has uploaded more tantalizing extracts from his Women Are Heroes movie that debuted at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Part of the street photographer’s 28 Millimètres project, this film chronicles his efforts to bring attention to the plight of downtrodden women everywhere by pasting up large-scale photos in an urban setting (see Paris). More footage after the jump…

Videos: Basel Week Miami ’10: Wynwood Walls

As you know, Wynwood Walls was one of the centerpieces of the Art Basel Week Miami experience when it came to outdoor work. Other than the photos we shared with you here, we thought you would like to see some video footage of all the action provided by Vernissage TV. As an added bonus, Tony Goldman, the man behind the entire project, and his daughter Jessica were interviewed on the subject (seen after the jump).

Streets: Judith Supine (Los Angeles)

It looks like Judith Supine was recently in Los Angeles for a visit. While in town, he took time to throw up several of his signature “green skinned” collaged pieces including one that was put in New Image Art’s show (covered) in Miami for Art Basel Week. Thankfully, his buddy Skullphone had time to shoot some pics before the rains started. More after the jump…

Openings: Josh Agle (SHAG) – “Ambergris” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Last Saturday night, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery hosted the opening of SHAG’s (interviewed) newest body of work “Ambergris” (previewed). As indicated by the obscure title, the new collection of paintings are centered on a nautical, and more specifically, a whaling theme, all while maintaining his mid-century aesthetic. Happily, the artist was able to to make it to the opening despite an unfortunate accident that left him injured. Take a look at all the opening pics after the jump…
