Streets: Olek (New York)

Agata Oleksiak or simply known has Olek has come into prominence recently for her crocheted interventions on the streets.  Although more commonly known for her bikes, the “Crochet Guerrilla” recently created a “sweater” for the famed Charging Bull or “Wallstreet Bull” in New York. Interestingly enough, the sculptor, Arturo Di Modica, originally installed the bull (costing the artist $360,000 of his own money) without permission in front of the New York Stock Exchange in December 1989 so this new work is somewhat of a homage […]

Osgemeos – “Slava’s Head” for The Moulin / Dépayz’arts

It looks like Osgemeos has hooked up with The Moulin again for another project, this time to fashion Slava’s head out of a trailer. The character is taken of the famous Russian clown show – Slava’s SnowShow, which is also the subject of an animation that the Brazilian duo are working on (shown here previously).  The installation will be part of a project called “Dépayz’arts“, held between Dec 27th-31st, with some of the best theater, dance, music, installation and street theatre groups including of course, […]

Sketchbook: Amy Sol

Inspired by some night-time walks by the coastline in the Northwest, Amy Sol (interviewed) recently filled her sketchbook with some night scenery since her last show was at Corey Helford (covered). It remains to be seen whether this translates to actual paintings, which actually would be pretty interesting. We are looking forward to her part in a monster group show towards the end of 2011 at Thinkspace Gallery. More after the jump…

Teaser: David Choe for “Zen Garden” @ JANM

This upcoming Thursday night at the Japanese American National Museum, the Zen Garage exhibition, developed in collaboration between the JANM and Giant Robot’s Eric Nakamura (interviewed), will be open to fans of car culture and art alike. The show features The Super Famicom Car – a retro video game inspired by a converted Scion xB that utilizes projectors from both the front and rear to play video games, Spike – a custom motorcycle by Shinya Kimura, and David Choe’s (featured) custom Monster Scion xB including […]

Openings: Armsrock – “Nocturne On A Drainpipe Flute” (Copenhagen)

Armsrock (interviewed) recently opened up a show in Copenhagen at the Wonderland Art Space entitled Nocturne On A Drainpipe Flute. No stranger to the art of projection as the Danish artist has participated in multiple light projects, this show features 210 drawings on 7 different looping projectors including many of the “images of unrest” that we love.

Teaser: Damien Hirst – “Forgotten Promises” @ Gagosian Gallery (Hong Kong)

To christen their new space in style, the Gagosian in Hong Kong will be hosting Damien Hirst’s Forgotten Promises as their debut show on January 18. After famously celebrating the opening of their Paris branch in October with Cy Twombly, the powerhouse gallery will followup with their first outpost in Asia by bringing the UK badboy along and word is he will be exhibiting his “mini skull” fashioned after child’s skull and adorned with pink diamonds – a scaled-down version of For the Love of […]

Merry Christmas from Skewville

Our final gift to you comes from the NYC art duo Skewville.  Known for their hanging wooden shoes, it looks like they hung up something different this time above the cleverly incorporated door for this street piece. And, with this final Christmas greeting, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays from the AM crew. Keep warm and we hope you got what you wanted for Xmas. Via Wooster Collective.

Streets: Merry Christmas from Slinkachu

More Christmas greetings come from street miniature photographer Slinkachu. This piece in London entitled Maz + Joe is a twist on the usual story this time of year with Mary riding something other than a Donkey, but it looks like all the places to sleep are still full. Hopefully, they’ll be able to find a manger to keep warm and deliver their bundle of joy. Another view after the jump…

Merry Christmas from Ashley Wood

Just like for Halloween, Ashley Wood took the time to create something for his fans. The giant in the comic book world is supposed to be exhibiting along with frequent collaborator and one of AM’s favorites Jeremy Geddes (interviewed) at Jonathan LeVine in 2012. But until then, take a look at the current piece on his easel after the jump from his frequently updated blog.

Merry Christmas from Melissa Haslam

Check out this new Christmas themed painting Melissa Haslam’s (featured) did for the launch of the Curvy 2010 book in Sydney. The piece will be on display at The Galeries along with work from Courtney Brims, Noferin, Fafi, Amandine Urruty, Genevieve Gauckler, Rilla Alexander, Irina Dakeva and Kaitlin Beckett until January 8th. Take a look at a process video of this piece after the jump from Melissa’s sister Suzie.
