Teaser: Camille Rose Garcia – “Snow White and the Black Lagoon” @ Michael Kohn Gallery

This may seem like pretty advanced notice, but we were so enamored with Camille Rose Garcia’s last project illustrating Alice in the Wonderland that we had to let you in on this tasty piece of news. It looks like her next show has been announced for March at the Michael Kohn Gallery and this time, another popular children’s story will be the focus – Snow White. Another Update: Josh Keyes – “Collision” @ David B. Smith Gallery

We couldn’t resist posting another teaser pic that is possibly (there’s a good chance it’s a commission piece also due to its size) for Josh Keyes‘ (interviewed) upcoming show at David B. Smith Gallery. This monster piece (perhaps 120″ x 40″?) looks to be an further exploration of the “Sowing” concept that we first saw in his Swarm Gallery show last year. We can’t wait to see the completed piece when the show “Collision” opens in November. Discuss Josh Keyes here.

Studio Visits: Brian Viveros

As we mentioned last week, we recently had the chance to stop by Brian Viveros’ Riverside studio for a visit to talk to him about a show we had been looking forward to for a while now. “The Dirtyland” opens this Saturday night (note that it’s not the usual Friday opening) at Thinkspace Gallery and will be a comprehensive exhibition of Brian’s artistic vision. The artist, based in the beautiful IE, is known for his smoking hot girls, often battered and bruised, but still maintaining […]

Streets: Os Gemeos (Lithuania)

Sounds like the Os Gemeos brothers made a trip to Northern Europe recently to trace their ancestry. Their grandfather was originally from Lithuania before immigrating to Brazil and you can read the full story on their most recent blog post. Nice to see things come full circle as they left their mark in Vilnius and Kaunas. A couple more images after the jump…

Opening at the second and gallery location for Giant Robot on Sawtelle Street next week is a joint show from Deth P. Sun and Ferris Plock. As you can see, Mr. Sun has been busy preparing a new body of work following the adventures of his beloved feline character as he appears to be trekking through the wilderness. Along the way, only armed with a knife, the wiley cat encounters other creatures as well as some ghosts! We’ve been enjoying Deth’s charming characters and imagery […]

Streets: Banksy in Basque

With “Exit Through the Gift Shop” premiering in Basque Country at the International Film Festival of San Sebastian, it’s not surprising that Banksy fans were keeping their eyes out for stencils from the elusive street artist. Well, looks like one popped up with a man staring a randomly framed section of a painted wall, probably Mr. B’s poke at abstract art. If the man in this image looks familiar, you may remember him from Toronto. So, all signs point to this as being a Banksy […]
