Video: Above – “Flying in the Wind”

ABOVE (interviewed) has put up another creative street piece, this time in Paris. We love how he mixed in some of his older work (the arrows) with his newer stuff.  Also, nice touch with continuing to add 3-dimensional elements to his stencils.  You can see more of his videos here. Discuss ABOVE here.

Openings: Brendan Monroe @ Richard Heller Gallery

Brendan Monroe (interviewed) premiered a new body of work at Richard Heller Gallery over the weekend. In addition to some fantastic organic and biologically inspired paintings, he also delighted show attendees with several impressive installations. One of these was the constellation of hanging wood sculptures seen with Monroe above that were suspended from the high ceiling in the front room. Take a look at all the pics after the jump…

Openings: Nate Frizzell – “Lost in the Thicket” @ LeBasse Projects

“Lost in the Thicket” opened last night in Culver City and AM was on hand at LeBasse Projects to take in Nate Frizzell’s solo show. Our first impression of this new body of work (during an earlier studio visit) was one of appreciation at the increasing maturity in this young artist’s talent. Seeing the paintings in the gallery setting definitely fortified our opinion, especially after seeing how all the work played off each other and the installation (a tree branch from Nate’s parents’ backyard fashioned to […]

The event took place last week at the “Style Project Room” in Berlin (details previously posted). Check out all the photos after the jump…

One of the shows we are looking forward to this weekend opens tonight at the Joshua Liner Gallery.  Ryan McLennan’s show in New York will be entitled “The Strain of Inheritance” and deals with ideas of survival in bleak environments as well as the cycle of life an death (a mix of skeletal remains, skulls, dead trees, topiary growths, thriving animals).  Also apparent in his imagery are the complex social interactions among the wildlife and how their fates are all bound together. For more insight […]

Time flies. It seems we had just told you about Brendan Monroe’s (interviewed) solo show at Richard Heller and it’s already time for the opening this weekend. After making good on the plans he told us about during our studio visit in May to move to Stockholm with his wife and fellow artist Evah Fan, he’s back in Los Angeles with a new body of work.  He plans on having a big wall installation that’s a little like a portable mural and another installation with […]
