Showing: Yoshitomo Nara – “For Better Or Worse” @ Toyota Municipal Museum of Art

Showing through this weekend at the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art is a retrospective of Yoshitomo Nara’s career spanning 30 years. Entitled For Better Or Worse, the exhibition includes wide range of work including installations, paintings, sculptures, and drawings. As stated by the museum – “‘For better or for worse’ is a wedding vow: a lifetime commitment from one person to another. Releases: Audrey Kawasaki – “Enchantress” Print

Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) recently announced a new open edition she has made available through Static Medium. Entitled Enchantress (image taken from a painting from her show last year in LA), the print is sized at 18″ x 18″ and comes unframed ($90) or framed ($260). Showing: Jeff Soto – “Potatostamp” @ Riverside Art Museum

Currently at the Riverside Art Museum, Jeff Soto (interviewed) has a show on view featuring his screen-printed gig posters and fine art prints from the last 15 years. Entitled Potatostamp, the retrospective look at this aspect of the locally-based artist’s career includes over 70 posters, as well as 40 original ink drawings. Upcoming: Pejac – “A Forest” @ Squero di San Trovaso (Venice)

Coming up on September 30th (coinciding nicely with the Venice Biennale), Pejac will be opening a two day only show entitled A Forest at the Squero di San Troves in Venice, Italy. The boatyard is one of the last places where traditional gondolas are still hand made, a fitting setting for those who are familiar with the Spanish artist’s work. Studio Visits: Victor Castillo

Currently at KP Projects in Los Angeles, Victor Castillo has a show on view entitled Broken Hearts, which will run through the rest of September. The new body of work features acrylic paintings (some quite large) as well as graphite drawings that continue the Chilean artist’s dark narrative seen through the lens of his not-so-innocent sausage nosed children. Streets: Banksy – Basquiat Tribute Pieces (London)

With the imminent opening of the first large-scale exhibition in the UK of the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat scheduled for the 21st, a couple Banksy pieces have shown up near the venue overnight. On his Instagram account, Banksy noted the irony of the Barbican, “a place that is normally very keen to clean any graffiti from its walls”, hosting the work of the legendary graffiti artist. The exhibition sees the Los Angeles-based artist continue his dark and erie portraiture of beautiful women, oftentimes with surreal elements. Showing: Mr. – “Floating in the Air in the Vicinity of a Convenience Store” @ Lehmann Maupin (HK)

Following up on last year’s showing (covered) at the New York location of Lehmann Maupin, Mr. returns to Asia with an exhibition at the gallery’s Hong Kong space. Entitled Floating in the Air in the Vicinity of a Convenience Store, the new solo features paintings, a sculpture, and a series of drawings that show his artistic process comprising of notes, scribbles, and sketches. As you can see, the Japanese artist continues to create work influenced by his love for manga and anime, a characteristic of his mentor Takashi Murakami’s “superflat” movement. […]

Recently, Aron Wiesenfeld released a new print entitled Bonny Doon through Static Medium. The image features a characteristically atmospheric scene from the artist featuring a girl running through the woods.
