Streets: JR Installation @ US-Mexico Border Fence (Part 1)

Recently in Tecate, at the US-Mexico border fence, JR (interviewed) has installed a provocative new project featuring a Mexican boy peering over the barrier. Previews: Pastel – “Space-Landscape” @ Athen B. Gallery

On September 9th, Pastel will be opening a solo show at Athen B. Gallery in Downtown Oakland entitled Space-Landscape. For his debut solo show in the United States, the Buenos Aires-based artist, whose real name is Francisco Diaz, has prepared a selection of paintings and sculptures that mirror his work on the streets paintings large floral based murals. Upcoming: Stella Im Hultberg – “Mago” @ Spoke Art (SF)

Following up on her solo there in 2015 (covered), Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed) will be opening a show at  Spoke Art in San Francisco this Thursday, August 31st. Entitled Mago, the new body of work from the Portland-based artist includes paintings and drawings that explore her Korean heritage, traditional folk stories, and her experiences with having a child. Jay Z Performs With Jeff Koons Balloon Dog @ V Festival

A couple nights ago, Jay Z took to the stage at Virgin V Festival in Chelmsford with a 40 foot inflated Jeff Koons balloon dogg with the blessing of the artist. The rapper is a self-proclaimed admirer of the British sculptor and even included a line – “Oh what a feeling, fuck it I want a billion / Jeff Koons balloons, I just wanna blow up” on his 2013 song Picasso Baby. Releases: James Jean – “Hunting Party II” Print

Coming up next week (August 29th), James Jean (interviewed) will be releasing a new time limited edition entitled Hunting Party II. The print depicts all the animals of the Chinese Zodiac, comes sized at 21-15/16″ tall × 29-1/2″ wide (image size: 18-3/4″ tall × 27-5/16″ wide), and cost $200. It will only be available for 24 hours starting at 8:00 AM PDT on Monday, August 28th and ending at 7:59 AM on Tuesday, August 29th here for those interested. Discuss James Jean here.

Upcoming: Jose Parla – “Mirrors” @ Brand New Gallery (Milan)

Coming up on September 21st, Jose Parla will be opening a solo show in Milan at Brand New Gallery that reflects on memories from his travels in Italy. Entitled Mirrors, the new work incorporates parts of posters ripped from off the walls of Milan, Rome, Napoli, Matera, Bari, Lecce and Bologna.
