Upcoming: Mark Ryden – “The Art Of Whipped Cream” @ Paul Kasmin Gallery

On May 20th, Mark Ryden (interviewed) will be opening a solo show in New York featuring artwork from the ballet (covered) he worked on with the American Ballet Theater. Entitled The Art Of Whipped Cream, the exhibition at Paul Kasmin Gallery will feature drawings, sketches and paintings made during the production of Whipped Cream. On April 22nd, Haroshi (featured) will be opening a solo show at Nanzuka in Tokyo entitled Guzo. For his first exhibition with the gallery in Shibuya, the locally-based artist has created 20 of his distinctive sculptures made from “salvaged” skate decks. After the his recent self-sponsored billboard went up near his studio in the Little Osaka area in Los Angeles, James Jean (interviewed) has announced a print release of the image. Udon II will be a time-limited edition starting 8:00 AM PDT on Monday, April 10 and ending at 7:59 AM PDT on Tuesday, April 11. Openings: Casey Gray – “Double Knotted” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Last weekend, Double Knotted, Casey Gray’s first solo show with Hashimoto Contemporary opened in San Francisco. The new body of work from the locally-based artist continues his explorations of still life with his unique technique utilizing spray paint and hand-cut masking (check out the video below). Gray’s carefully curated selection of objects are arranged into vibrant compositions, a masterful example being the large 8 x 6 foot showstopper piece. Starting tomorrow (April 6th) at 10 am PST, Aron Wiesenfeld will be releasing a new print entitled Eva. The time-limited edition will be available for 7 days from that point forward for $135. Closing last weekend at Thinkspace was an exhibition from Marco Mazzoni entitled Dear Collapse, his second solo with the gallery in Los Angeles.
