San Diego gets itself a new gallery this weekend with the opening of Low Gallery in the North Park area. Previews: St. Monci – ‘Adventures in Technicolor’ @ 1975 Gallery

St. Monci is an artist that has been catching our eye lately. From his delicately composed gallery work to his large scale murals, his clean line-work and use of colour presents a strong abstract aesthetic. This weekend, he opens his solo exhibition at Rochester, NY’s 1975 Gallery. Adventures in Technicolor opens on Saturday, 7th September, and from the looks of these installation shots taken by photographer Hannah Betts it would be well worth checking out in person if you are in the area.  

Upcoming: Kent Williams – “OPHTHALM: new drawings + paintings” @ Evoke Contemporary

On October 4th, the Evoke Contemporary in New Mexico will be presenting a new solo exhibition from Kent Williams. Making his return to the showspace (see 2010), the Los Angeles-based painter has put forth work collectively entitled OPHTHALM: new drawings + paintings. The title of of the show brings to mind a similarly named book he recently released that is still available as well. Preview: Dave Kinsey – “Black White” @ FFDG

If you were in San Francisco last year, you may remember the show (covered) Dave Kinsey put on at the Fecal Face Dot Gallery. Come Thursday, September 5th, FFDG will be welcoming him back for a second show entitled Black White featuring new mixed media paintings and wood sculptural works. Before heading to New York for his big solo at the new Galerie Perrotin location in November, KAWS will be taking a side trip to Philadelphia for a show opening on October 11th at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA). Releases: VNA Issue 23 – Faile Cover Release @ Reed Space

Our friends at Very Nearly Almost (VNA) recently held a release party to celebrate the launch of their latest issue where Brooklyn collective Faile (featured) created a limited edition print by silkscreening their artwork on the cover.
