Teaser: Terry Richardson – “TERRYWOOD” @ OHWOW

On February 24th, the always provocative Terry Richardson’s will be opening his first solo showing in Los Angeles at the OHWOW Gallery. The busy fashion and celebrity photographer had only recently exhibited in New York at the end of last year with work focused on his mom and dad (covered). This time around, the new snapshots are entitled semi-eponymously TERRYWOOD and is no doubt inspired by multiple facets of Hollywood life. Discuss Terry Richardson here.

Remember when renowned photographer JR (featured) recently returned to his home country of France for a solo exhibition entitled Encrages at Galerie Perrotin. The fresh show took over the spacious two story Paris gallery as well as utilized the ample outdoor area with his signature large-scale wheatpasting. During the opening night, we also showed you the pics from the surprise visit by Massive Attack and a short video of their live performance. Whitewall Mag x Walton Ford Studio Visit

For those who were as enamored as we were with Walton Ford’s new King Kong-inspired work at a recent show in New York (covered), you may want to pick up the most recent copy of Whitewall Magazine. Not only does it feature multiple covers and a studio visit with KAWS, the winter issue also has photos of Ford in-studio as well as an interview. AM recently stopped by the agnès b. gallery boutique to catch their latest exhibition with esteemed Italian photographer Massimo Vitali. The opening reception allowed guests to peruse a new series of photographs taken in Italy, Turkey and Greece from 2009-2011. Making use of his signature style, Massimo took the photos from a high vantage point (4-5 meters) using large format film cameras to achieve his unique look at beach and tourist landscapes. Update: Melissa Cooke

Here is an update on the Wisconsin-based Melissa Cooke who we last mentioned in May earlier this year. She has recently completed a three month Artist-in-Residence program at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha, Nebraska where she fully utilized her spacious studio to get started on some large graphite works possibly headed for her solos in Los Angeles and New York later next year. To ring in the new year, we bring you the oil on linen paintings of Michael Peck in this week’s Art Focus. We will concentrate on a body of work that he recently showed at the Metro Gallery in Australia that featured a look at World War II through the eyes of innocent children, a personal metaphor as the showing explored the Melbourne based artist’s own relationships with his two grandfathers (both passed away last year) who both served in the Second World War. Haroshi x HUF x DLX Collaboration Event

Coming up on January 7th in Los Angeles (545 S. Clarence St.), sculptor Haroshi (last seen at his NY solo) will be unveiling his limited edition collaboration with HUF and Bay Area skateboard distributor DLX. The event will also include an exhibition of six original works by the Japanese artist who is known for crafting work from compressed skateboards. Basel Week Miami ’11: Cooper Cole Gallery @ Scope

During Scope art fair we got a chance to catch up with Toronto’s Cooper Cole Gallery. Hosting a solid array of names familiar to readers of AM, the gallery presented great pieces from artists such as Cleon Peterson, Jesse Harris, Maya Hayuk, Ryan Wallace and Steve Powers. We were particularly taken with the always colorful and imaginative pieces by Jen Stark. Who has always had the viewer in mind when she creates her interactive works of art.
