Showing: Masakatsu Sashie – “Moon” @ Zipangu (Osaka)

Last showing a striking, large scale painting at Art HK back in May, Japanese contemporary artist Masakatsu Sashie is this time participating in a group exhibition in his home country. Moon, which opened on the 28th, saw a slight departure from the artist’s signature orb paintings, or perhaps more accurately a return of sorts to the hybrid machine compositions more relevant to the his early work. AM recently stopped by Agnès B’s Howard Street flagship store to catch two special group shows exhibiting at the “Galerie Boutique”. The first was Certain Young French Photography and Drawings featuring works by Claire Adelfang, Claudia Imbert, Luna Picoli Truffaut, Marc Cellier, Nicolas Dhervillers, Matthias Olmeta, Leonard Bourgois-Beaulieu, Leionel Avignon and Kiki & Loulou Picasso. The second was Holding Pattern Outpost which showcased the winning works of MOMA PS1’s 12th Annual Young Architect’s Program. Check it out after the jump.

Auctions: Bonhams “Urban Art Sale” Results (September)

Last Wednesday, Bonhams hosted their September Urban Art Sale to a “packed house” at the New Bond Street location in Central London. As we highlighted the strength of some recent Banksy results in our overview and analysis of his Top 25 Most Expensive Works Ever, money appears to continue pouring into street art unimpeded at the auction level, despite the general malaise evident in the financial markets. After previewing three booths (here, here, and here) that we are looking forward to later today at the PULSE art fair, we have one final suggestion for those attending. LA’s Mark Moore Gallery recently opened their sixth annual Ultrasonic show, surveying emerging and mid-career artists. For this installment, the gallery tapped six artists – Theodora Allen, Sebastiaan Bremer, Alika Cooper, Mark Mulroney, Okay Mountain and Andrew Schoultz – whose work falls under the theme of appropriation.
