Openings: Exhibition A – “Monochrome Set” @ Ace Hotel

For many of you, Exhibition A is already an organization that you may be familiar with. For the uninitiated, it’s a site that’s dedicated to selling exclusive editioned artwork by some of notable names in contemporary art, but their goal is to do that without breaking your bank. We recently attended the inaugural show for Exhibiton A’s Monochrome Set held at the Ace hotel including works from Terence Koh, Nate Lowman, Hanna Liden, Josephine Meckseper, Olympia Scarry, Peter Sutherland, Oliver Zahm and Leo Fitzpatrick. Check […]

Teaser: Jen Stark @ Show & Tell Gallery

After making heads turn at Art Basel Miami a few months back (covered), much like she did back in 2009 as well (covered), the psychedelically inclined Jen Stark will soon be exporting her unique brand of sculpture centric work north of the border to Show and Tell Gallery in Toronto. Opening Thursday, May 12th, collectors can expect a selection of her phenomenal geometric, gravity defying paper creations, all meticulously cut and constructed by hand. These sculptures are a meditation in patience and craftsmanship, the payoff […]

Videos: Mars-1 & Doze Green Collaboration

These sorts of artistic collaborations always interest us here at AM, especially where we can see it happen in person like the Art Jams at Baby Tattooville (2008, 2009, 2010). Mars-1 (featured) is certainly not new working synergistically with other artists (Mars-1 x Oliver Vernon x Damon Soule), and the results of painting with Doze Green is no less spectacular. Take a look at the footage above as each express their thoughts behind the project. Hearing Doze talk about his inspirations – “renaissance paintings and […]

Openings: Mark Flood – “Mark Fluid” @ Zach Feuer

During a hectic Armory Week, AM made time to catch the artist reception for Mark Flood’s and check out his latest series of work, entitled Mark Fluid, at the Zach Feuer gallery. It’s pretty amazing how in his signature paintings, he takes simple canvases and renders them so that it seems to have delicate lacing material coming out from it. The colors and glow each one exudes is stunning. Also on hand to entertain the audience were his witty stencil “phrases” and some detailed installations. […]

Preview: Jonathan Viner – “COMPUTER SCIENCE” @ Sloan Fine Art

Next Wednesday evening, March 30th, Sloan Fine Art will play host to Jonathan Viner’s new body of work. The show entitled “COMPUTER SCIENCE” harkens back to Viner’s childhood when he spent countless hours with their father at the robotics lab at the New York Institute of Technology and the “mental portraits” of the people he interacted with in his memory. More preview images after the jump.  Also take a look at a special installation from Elizabeth McGrath in the project room.

Releases: MARS-1 “Infinite Tapestry” Print @ Electric Works

San Francisco’s Electric Works recently released a great new print by Mario Martinez aka Mars-1 (featured). The edition, entitled Infinite Tapestry, is a silkscreen print using florescent UV inks on black velvet-flocked paper. According to Electric Works, “the color background was applied with a process called ‘Split Fountain’ in which all 5 colors are put on the screen and mixed into the gradient in one pull as the squeegee goes across the screen. Each pull mixes the inks a little differently so each print is […]

Showing: Robert Longo – “God Machines” @ Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac

Robert Longo is currently showing at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in Paris, and we are completely in awe of his the size, detail, and complexity of these new drawings. The centerpiece of this exhibition, entitled God Machines, is the installation of three large pieces featuring some of holiest places for the world’s largest monotheistic religions – Mecca in Saudi Arabia, St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem. Also on display will be other studies and works of some of his favorite subjects […]

Ron English x Chris Brown – F.A.M.E. Album Cover

The new Chris Brown album F.A.M.E.’s cover is out and it features the art of Ron English (featured). Now we know what they were talking about when they were spotted having dinner together several months ago with Chris sporting a tattoo of Ron’s art on his arm. No telling if this will help turn the disgraced R&B singer’s career around, but what we do know is this is the not the first (see Ron’s Slash cover) or last album cover Ron will be working on. […]
