Preview: David Ellis – “Mola Salsa” @ New Image Art

This Saturday night, the versatile and multi-talented David Ellis brings a new body of work “Mola Salsa” to New Image Art. No word yet whether his popular “trash sound sculptures” or video work will be making their appearance at the West Hollywood gallery, but here are some preview images of some of the paintings for your enjoyment. It seems like his work has taken a more figurative turn.

We caught a glimpse of the Hell’s Half Acre (covered) catalogue a while back on Conor Harrington (interviewed) blog, but the official release had not happened yet at that time. Teaser: Mark Dean Veca C.O.L.A. Fellowship Exhibition

Oh Yeah!  Here is a little teaser for the upcoming C.O.L.A. Fellowship exhibition in May at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery. Each year the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) awards Individual Artist Fellowships to thirteen exemplary midcareer visual, performing and literary artists and our friend Mark Dean Veca’s (interviewed) was chosen as one of the recipients. AM attended a special party at Phillips de Pury for Ryan McGinness’ Black Holes” exhibition last Friday night. After bringing you an indoor and outdoor view of this mind altering installation, it seemed only natural that McGinness Studios hosts an event that incorporates the human element into the already impressive show. Openings: George Condo – “Mental States” @ New Museum

On Tuesday night AM attended the private opening of Mental States at the New Museum in New York. The exhibition is the first major US survey of works by George Condo with a over 80 paintings and sculptures spanning 1982 to current day by the adventurous and imaginative artist. Utilizing two floors of the spacious museum, Condo’s work was separated into multiple areas.
