Frieze 2010: David Shrigley with Stephen Friedman Gallery

One of the highlights of our Frieze visit was stumbling upon the Stephen Friedman Gallery booth. As an unexpected surprise to us, the entire booth had been dedicated to an installation of David Shrigley’s work. Releases: Ryan McGinley – “Life Adjustment Center” Book

Coinciding with his show at Ratio 3, Dashwood Books is releasing a book based on Ryan McGinley’s “Life Adjustment Center” (covered) exhibition. The book will ship Nov 8, but you can pre-order yours today. It is $45, hardcover, 7″ x 9.5″, and an edition of 3,000. Dashwood also has a few copies of his last book (their first with the artist) as well, which you should pick up soon, if you’ve been sleeping on it. Discuss Ryan McGinley here.

Preview: DZINE – “Voodoo” @ Leo Koenig Projekte

Opening tomorrow night at NYC’s Leo Koenig Projekte is the latest solo show by Chicago artist DZINE entitled, “Voodoo.” The exhibition includes one of the artists’ amazing custom bicycle sculptures, as well as a video installation, sculptural drawings and photographs—each inspired by and partially produced on the Dutch Island of Curacao during his residency at the Instituto Bena Bista Curacao Center for Contemporary Art. This Friday, November 5th, Marco Mazzoni, who first caught our eye during the LeVine Summer Invitational, will be opening a new solo show in Italy. Hot on the heels of the recent opening of her Fata Morgana solo show at Galerie L.J. in Paris, Swoon (interviewed) made a trip to London last week. Emma Tooth’s ‘Concilium Plebis’ series of oil paintings have been described as “Extraordinary portraits of ordinary people.” This week sees the Derbyshire based artist open her London solo show at the Lazarides’ Outsiders Gallery, as well as making her debut showing in the United States in Thinkspace’s five year anniversary show. Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto continues its program of exhibitions exciting to us at AM with local boy Brian Donnelly’s second solo exhibit with the gallery opening on November 5th, 2010. “Obedience & Savagery” picks up where 2009’s “Blasphemies, Monstrosities and Other Perversions” left off, with Brian’s unique grafting of animal appendages onto human forms forming the basis of the work. Von, or HelloVon (interviewed) has released a pretty nice set of prints entitled “Animals: Collector’s Edition Box Set”. Each of the boxes are handmade with the set coming in an edition of 50 and priced at £225. Sized at 40cm x 30cm, each print is signed and numbered and is based on his Animal Series.
