Yesterday, we stopped by on the last day of the soldout Kevin Peterson show at Thinkspace Gallery to check out his new paintings. Collectively entitled Remnants, the fresh collection of works feature the Houston-based artist’s children and animal portraiture in urban settings. Utilizing these unlikely subjects with such stark backgrounds often featuring graffiti, abandoned structures, and overgrowth provides a contrast that is recognizable in all of his work. Tonight in New York, the Tribeca Grand Hotel will be ringing in the New Year’s with a Popaganda Artist Ball. One of the highlights for fans will be this sculptural collaboration between Ron English (featured) who recently unveiled a solo himself (covered) at the hotel and Olek. After showing with Merry Karnowsky in 2012 (covered), Johnny Rodriguez (aka KMNDZ) will be back on February 7th with another solo show. I’d Rather Love You will feature imagery that we have come to love from the Los Angeles-based artist featuring an interplay of intricately detailed birds, bombs, flowers, jewels, numerology and other paraphernalia rendered in a rust-colored palette.
