Previews: Josh Keyes – “The Hermit” & “Migratory Soul” Figures

After releasing his first sculptural edition last year, Josh Keyes (interviewed) is already working on another two to the delight of his collectors. Based off two of his complimentary paintings The Hermit & Migratory Soul, the two figures are already are in their protoype form. Streets: Mars-1, Damon Soule, Oliver Vernon (Denver)

Whenever some of the Furtherrr Collective boys get together (see 2012, 2013, 2013), you can expect something special to go down. That’s exactly what happened last week in Denver at Cultivate Colorado (666 Buchtel Blvd.) when Mars-1, Damon Soule, and Oliver Vernon combined their powers create this otherworldly mural. With imagery from the three artists that mesh so well together, the new wall is a welcome addition to the cityscape and will stand as a testament to their talent. Releases: James Jean – “Tiger III” Print

Next week, James Jean (interviewed) will be releasing a new signed and numbered print, Tiger III, on his website. As a timed release, the limited edition will be available for 24 hours starting at 8:00 AM PDT on Tuesday, August 19th and ending at 7:59 on Wednesday the 20th with the run being determined by demand. Over the weekend, Vered Gallery opened a new showing from Colin Christian (interviewed) entitled Cosplay, a fitting name collectively for the new selection of sculptures and for his work in general. Previews: Mark Whalen – “Peculiarities” @ Melbourne Art Fair

On August 13th, blackartprojects will be showing new work from Mark Whalen (aka Kill Pixie) at the Melbourne Art Fair. Peculiarities will see the Australian born, Los Angeles based artist continue his explorations of isolated geometric environments where his strange characters dance, contort, and interact in unusual ways, often beautiful and grotesque at the same time. Openings: Tara McPherson – “Supernova” @ Merry Karnowsky

Last weekend, the opening of Supernova at Merry Karnowsky Gallery by Tara McPherson reminded her fans in Los Angeles of some of the reasons they love her work. Working in warm blues and reds, her female characters are rendered flatly with crisp lines, yet with an urgent vibrancy as the New York-based artist and gallery owner plays with familiar heart and water motifs.
