Just this past Saturday night, the Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles hosted Go West, a joint show between Kris Kuksi and David Ellis curated by Joshua Liner that is a followup to the Go East exhibition that was hosted at their New York last May where the two galleries roles were flip-flopped. For his part, Kuksi brought along several of the large mixed media assemblages that he is famous for. Openings: Tat Ito – “Shinagawa Shinju” @ Above Second

Last month, the Above Second Gallery in Hong Kong played host to Japanese artist Tat Ito a selection of his paintings. Shinagawa Shinju featured the NY-based artists riff on storytellers of Japanese rakugo, a form of verbal entertainment based on comical monologues about ordinary lives. Ito’s imagery is well suited for the subject matter as the miniature characters in his work are often involved in humorous situations in the rich background tapestry of his world. Continuing the collaboration between two galleries on opposite coasts, this Saturday night (July 14th) sees the opening of Go West at the Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles. The exhibition, which will be curated by Joshua Liner Gallery, is a followup to the Go East exhibition that was hosted at their New York showspace last May which was curated by Mark Moore. This Saturday, July 14th sees the opening of Jeremy Fish’s (featured) solo show at Fifty24SF. Entitled Where Hearts Get Left, the new body of work to be presented is a testament to the the Bay Area-based artist’s love for San Francisco. As such, the imagery presented is thematically tied into local references including Native American legends, food spots, tourist attractions, historical details, and more all rendered beautifully in his signature style including his use of sculptural motifs. With the opening of this year’s Comic-Con, we’ll have some news of things to look out for if you are in San Diego at the moment for the big event. Opposite Luke Chueh’s signing last Thursday (covered), Sweden-based artist Jonas Löfgren and San Francisco-based husband & wife duo DoubleParlour opened up their joint show at Spoke Art. Although the artists were not familiar with each others works prior to the show, Jonas’s graphite drawings and DoubleParlour’s sculptures both share a playful yet slightly sinister and mischievous feel to it. Last weekend, the Andy Kehoe unveiled a new selection of work featuring a new technique of layering his paintings with resin (and even some local flora). Despite the use of a new medium, Into The Depths at Thinkspace Gallery still highlights the reasons why the Pittsburgh-based painter is popular with his fans – autumnal imagery and colors, mysterious characters, and imaginative backgrounds. Last Thursday, Luke Chueh’s signing and sketch tour celebrating the release of his book – Bearing the Unbearable continued with a rare appearance in the Bay Area at Spoke Art (previewed).
