Releases / Studio Visits: Dave Kinsey, Ron English & TrustoCorp editions by Static Medium

We’ve been busy getting ready the past few weeks for our City of Fire exhibition opening that happens tonight in Beverly Hills. While exhibiting fresh artwork from some of our favorite artists may be the point of this group show, but we also remember that the foundation of many collections are rooted in fine art editions. So in celebration of this opening we have worked with Dave Kinsey, Ron English and TrustoCorp to create a unique series of limited prints for the AM readers. Part […]

Over the weekend, the AM crew and the good people at Stephen Webster have been hard at work setting up for our City of Fire scheduled to open on Tuesday night (7-10 pm on June 5th). While there, we have seen various artists drop off pieces, stop by for a chat, and work on various gallery installations. Last week, we already brought you some teaser images from most of the artists in our show including Cyrcle., Thomas Doyle, Ron English, James Jean, Kid Zoom, Dave Kinsey, MARS-1, […]

Preview: Sarah Joncas – “Between Wind and Water” @ Thinkspace

Coming up in a couple weeks, the Thinkspace Gallery will be hosting Between Wind and Water, a joint show between  Sarah Joncas (interviewed) & Caia Coopman. The Toronto-based painter will be presenting 18 new pieces, including the one seen above featuring her female portraiture. It looks like some of the pieces for this show continue the somber mood seen in her previous shot as well as adding a touch of mystery. Discuss Sarah Joncas here.

Openings: Naoto Hattori – “Mind Project” @ Copro Gallery

A couple weeks ago, Japanese artist Naoto Hattori opened a show at the Copro Gallery in Santa Monica alongside Matt Dangler’s solo (covered). Not only did Mind Project bring a selection of the psychedelic and surreal paintings that fans have come to expect from Hattori, it also marked a rare appearance from him at the opening reception. Take a look at more photos from the show down below… Discuss this show here. Discuss Naoto Hattori here.

Openings: Mia Araujo – “Into The Woods” @ Corey Helford

Earlier this month, the Corey Helford Gallery opened their doors to new works from Mia Araujo (interviewed). Into The Woods featured medium to large paintings from the painter showing off her gift for composition and imaginative narratives. Structured like movie posters with central characters and supporting details and elements, the works evoke a feeling that the viewer is witnessing an epic tale or mythic adventure unfold before their very eyes. For those who missed out on the free mini-print that was given out on the night […]

Openings: Matt Dangler – “Center Flame” @ Copro Gallery

A couple weekends ago, AM stopped by the Copro Gallery to check out the new paintings from Matt Dangler (interviewed). It has been awhile since we saw a large body of work from Matt (2009), so we were curious to see what Center Flame would reveal. What we saw was a collection of oil paintings that showed he still had a touch for the surreal, an imaginative collection of bizarre beasts, as well as continued references to his love for fish and things aquatic. Discuss […]
