Teaser: Brian Viveros – “Returning Art to the Unclean” @ Last Rites Gallery

When we we last visited Brian Viveros in his studio, he was hard at work getting ready for his The Dirtyland exhibition at Thinkspace. After that successful showing last October, the Riverside-based painter will be bringing his entire “Smoking Arm-Me” to New York for his next solo at the Last Rites Gallery in September. Teaser: Andrew Hem – “Cold Water” @ LeBasse Projects

On July 16th, LeBasse Projects will be hosting a new body of work from Andrew Hem (interviewed) at their Culver City gallery entitled Cold Water. Themes of isolation and personal conflict will be the focus of the paintings as the viewer follows Andrew’s journey from “being surrounded by cold situations and places” until emerging from that situation and then heading back onto the road to happiness. It’s been a little while since 2009’s Lazarus Rising at Elms Lesters Painting Rooms, the last UK solo exhibition by Ron English. Openings / Benefits: “Sea No Evil 2011” @ Riverside Municipal Auditorium

Last night in Riverside, the Socal art scene made a rare migration into the IE for the annual Sea No Evil show and benefit. Proceeds of the auction go to Captain Paul Watson and his Sea Shepard Conservation Society, of Whale Wars fame, with many of the artists we follow participating including Jeff Soto with this year’s featured image seen above. Creative Process: Eric Fortune (Part II)

Preview: Harry Potter Tribute @ Nucleus Gallery
