It just wouldn’t be Art Basel Miami week without fantastical Floridians Friends With You. This year, the energetic and imaginative duo of Sam Borkson and Arturo Sandoval will be presenting Rainbow City, a large-scale outdoor installation that in their words addresses “the potency of interaction, ritual, and play.” Constructed in Miami’s Design District, the site-specific collection of 40 simple air-filled structures—some up to 40 feet high—are meant to embrace and tower over guests, creating a feeling of reverence. Completed just in time for the city’s art lovers to view before they embark for Miami, Kenny Scharf’s mural is up on the wall where his close friend and collaborator Keith Haring famously had his. Opening today at Milan’s Galleria Patricia Armocida is “Time Before Time,” the first solo exhibit in Italy by Matt Leines. Fresh off the clamoring success of Sanrio’s 50th Anniversary bash in Southern California, Small Gift Los Angeles (covered), the art exhibition and pop-up store tag team celebration will be traveling down to South Beach next week to coincide with Art Basel Miami Beach.
