On May 12th, the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum will be opening Flourish, a group show curated by Thinkspace Gallery. Fashion: James Jean x Prada 2018 Resort Collection

Following up on his work with Prada in 2008 and other projects through the years, James Jean (interviewed) has collaborated with the Italian fashion house on part of their 2018 resort collection. Staged for the first time at the Fondazione Prada Osservatorio in Milan, the runway show featured the illustrator and visual artist’s imagery prominently on parkas, a pantsuit, dresses as well as many of the handbags. This Saturday, May 13, Joao Ruas will be opening a solo at Jonathan LeVine Projects in New Jersey entitled Geist. The concept behind the new work, according to the Sao Paulo-based artist, was inspired by The Phenomenology of the Spirit by G. W. F. Hegel, and uses “modern and ancient metaphorical allegories, religious scenes and historical characters to address attempts to change the inexorable universal pendulum of creation and destruction through endless ages. Last month, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art (in association with Thinkspace Gallery) hosted the opening of Robert Williams’ Midwestern debut. This Saturday night, May 6th, Spoke Art in San Francisco will be opening a new group show entitled TONDO. As the name of the exhibition suggests, over 50 artists were asked to contribute works that were round with creative license to use their own style and imagery. On May 6th, Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco will be hosting a group show curated by Kirsten Anderson (owner of the recently closed Roq La Rue). Recently in Culver City, California, Kenny Scharf (interviewed) was able to paint some of his signature characters on the sides of a building overlaid over a colorful background of drips. It looks like while there, he also took time to continue his series of what he calls Karbombz where he paints the outside of a lucky fan’s automobile.
