Hayao Miyazaki Un-retires

Fans around the world were delighted to hear last month that Studio Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki will be working on a ten minute short that will screen exclusively at the Studio Ghibli museum in Japan. His son Goro Miyazaki revealed that his father is bored maintaining the museum and wants to keep busy working on a new three year project that will feature a 3D animation about a caterpillar named Boro. Showing: Os Gemeos – “Parallel Connection” @ Times Square (New York)

After tipping you off a few days ago about Os Gemeos’ three minutes of fame at New York’s Times Square, we now have some photos and video to share of their animation that runs from 11:57pm to midnight each night in August. Upcoming: Cleon Peterson – “Poison” @ Library Street Collective

Provocative painter Cleon Peterson has worked with the Library Street Collective before like during last year’s Art Basel Week in Miami (covered). Their new collaborative effort, a show entitled Poison, will be opening on August 29 at the LSC gallery space in Detroit and will no doubt feature more powerful and barbaric imagery from the former assistant to Shepard Fairey, drawing from his experiences and dark past. Previews: Rose Eken – “Tableau” @ V1 gallery

On August 14th, V1 gallery in Copenhagen will be opening Tableau, new large-scale ceramic installation by Rose Eken. Following up on our coverage of the Conor Harrington & 1010 murals for the Street Art Doping festival, we now have photos of the piece that Ernest Zacharevic painted. Releases: James Jean – “Pescados” Print

On August 8th, James Jean (interviewed) will be offering up another time-limited print on his webstore entitled Pescados. Each one (image size: 8 ⅜″ tall × 6 ¼″ wide, paper size: 11 ⅜″ tall × 7 ¼″ wide) is signed and numbered and will cost $100. The edition size will be determined by the number of orders in a 48 hour window from 12:01 AM PDT on Saturday, August 8th until 11:59 PM on Sunday, August the 9th. Discuss James Jean here.

Openings: Josh Keyes & Brin Levinson – “Reclamation of Nowhere” @ Antler Gallery

Last week, Josh Keyes (interviewed) returned to the Antler Gallery for a joint showing with Brin Levinson entitled Reclamation of Nowhere. Their imagery meshed nicely together with Keyes’ creatures interacting with what may be a post-apocalyptic urban landscape and Levinson working with the same nature versus man themes but with a different atmosphere. The show runs through the 26th of this month for those in Portland who want to stop by themselves for a look. Discuss Josh Keyes here.
