Streets: Aaron Li-Hill (New Jersey)

Earlier this year, we introduced you to the kinetic work of Aaron Li-Hill in one of our Art Focus features. Working in Jersey City on a wall project arranged by Savage Habit, the New York-based artist has recently painted one of his motion-filled portraits inspired by the movements seen in ping pong. Take a look at more detailed and in-progress photos below… Photo credit: Savage Habit. Discuss Aaron Li-Hill here.

Antony Micallef for the “Stations Of The Cross” Show

The last time we heard from Antony Micallef was in 2012 when he opened a solo show in London at The Outsiders. More recently, he contributed a biblically inspired painting to a group exhibition, Stations Of The Cross, held at a unique setting – the St Marylebone Parish Church. Produced by Art Below, and currently showing until April 17th to coincide with Lent, proceeds from the sales will go towards the Missing Tom Fund. In association with the show, billboards with the artwork were displayed throughout the London Underground although […]

Openings: Geoff McFetridge – “Meditallucination” @ V1 Gallery

On Friday night, Geoff McFetridge presented a new body of work at the V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, his second showing with the gallery. The versatile Los Angeles-based artist brought with him a set of paintings featuring his signature minimalistic portraiture as well as a series of smaller pieces. Rounding out the exhibition were some of the ceramic works we first fell in love with back in 2011. Via Highsnobiety & It’s Nice That. Discuss Geoff McFetridge here.

Cyrcle. – “Overthrone! Pooring Reign” @ StolenSpace

Several weeks ago in London, the Cyrcle. crew opened up a new solo show at StolenSpace entitled Overthrone! Pooring Reign. Working with design elements mirrored in their recent street works (like for POW! WOW! Hawaii), the Los Angeles-based duo created pieces that dealt with ideas of the interplay of powers and how one’s mind can be used to conquer one’s fears. Take a look at at more photos below… Discuss Cyrcle. here.

Openings: Augustine Kofie & Moneyless – “Assioma” @ Avantgarden Gallery

Augustine Kofie (featured) and Teo Pirisi aka Moneyless met for the first time in San Francisco back in 2010, and ever since they’ve been both friends and admirers of each other’s work. Fans of geometric, futuristic and abstract works, their pieces have been exhibited many times alongside each other.  Now four years since they met, they finally got to work together thanks to Avantgarden Gallery. On the 20th of March, they opened Assioma, a two man exhibition in Milan, Italy, and introduced their first ever collaborative […]

Previews: “Espionage II” @ Copro Gallery

Tomorrow night, March 22nd, the Copro Gallery in Los Angeles will be opening a group show entitled Espionage II, a followup to an exhibition they put on during Art Basel Miami last year. If you remember, we recently showed you a piece from that show that Eric Fortune used for a print release. That painting (also seen below) will make a reappearance in the California version of the show along with work from Eli Effenberger, Leslie Ditto, John Brophy, Chris Mars, Annie Owens, Billy Norrby (seen above), […]

Upcoming: Tauba Auerbach – “The New Ambidextrous Universe” @ ICA (London)

On April 16th, the ICA in London will be presenting the first solo exhibition in the UK from the transcendent Tauba Auerbach. Entitled The New Ambidextrous Universe, the show will feature a diverse selection of works from the versatile artist including sculpture, photography, painting, weaving and book design. In particular, we are interested in   her newly created works that “take as their starting point the scientific principles of symmetry and reflection as a means to hint at an alternate, mirror universe.” Discuss Tauba Auerbach here.

Upcoming: Camille Rose Garcia – “La Danse Macabre” @ Roq La Rue

After working on a series of charity print releases, group shows, and projects with Roq La Rue, Camille Rose Garcia (interviewed) will be opening up a solo show at the Seattle showspace next month. Entitled La Danse Macabre, the new pieces, if going according to name for the fresh body of work, will thematically deal with the “Dance of Death,” an artistic genre in the Middle Ages that focused on the universality of dying, no matter one’s station in life. A fitting subject for the gothic imagery often […]
