Upcoming: Adam Neate – “HISTORY” @ Elms Lester

For Adam Neate (interviewed) fans out there, you will want to make plans to be in London this Saturday (November 16th 10:00am – 1:00pm) for the opening of HISTORY. Attendees of the Elms Lester show will see over 35 portraits (created since 2006) on loan from collectors that will show a nice progression the British artist’s portraiture from works on cardboard to his more recent “dimensional paintings” (like in his 2012 show). Currently showing in Lille, France through January 12th, is a birthday celebration for Galerie Perrotin. French art dealer Emmanuel Perrotin has been invited by lille3000 to take over the spaces of the Tri Postal along with a selection of artists he has worked with in the course of his 25 year career. Last week, Spanish street artist Belin finished a mural on the exterior of the future superclub Space New York. Showing: Gaia – “Marshland” @ Rice Gallery

The prolific Baltimore and Brooklyn-based Gaia currently has big installation showing at the Rice University Art Gallery. For this project, the young artist did a series of interviews with people working at the university as well as gathered some information about the history of Houston. Through this research, he created his impression of “Houston’s sprawling urban landscape and increasingly international demographic,” and turned it into reality at the university gallery. Showing: Justin Bower – “Panic Room” @ Unix Gallery

Currently showing in New York is Justin Bower’s new solo show at the Unix Gallery entitled Panic Room. The Los Angeles-based painter is presenting a new collection of large scale work featuring his multi-layered and frenetic portraiture. The surreal faces portrayed look like they have been taken from glitchy TV monitors with their faces vacillating between various emotions, embellished and broken up with artificial geometric artifacts. Openings: Adam Wallacavage – “Magic Mountain” @ Jonathan LeVine

Last month, AM stopped by the currently running show from Adam Wallacavage (interviewed) at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York. Magic Mountain features the Philadelphia-based artist’s surreal mixed media sculptures and functional art objects as well as some pieces inspired and cast from vintage toys in his personal collection.
