“Young Americans: Antimatter” @ Gajah Gallery

Young Americans: Antimatter is a group exhibition that just closed in Singapore at the Gajah Gallery featuring Amanda Charchian, Bumblebee (seen above), Greg Allen-Muller, Lisa Solberg, Judith Supine and Zio Ziegler. Curated by Simmy Swinder, the show features a diverse collection of works from the selected young American artists. Showing: Tauba Auerbach @ STANDARD (OSLO)

As previously announced, Tauba Auerbach recently opened a solo show at STANDARD (OSLO). Showing a whole new body of work that includes installation works, sculptural pieces, and canvases, the American artist worked with a wide range of materials from granite, sand, glass, resin, opal, to plywood and woven fabric. Showing: Askew One “Entropy” @ Inner State Gallery, Detroit

New Zealand artist Askew is currently showing at the Inner State Gallery in Detroit. For Entropy, the artist created a new coherent body of work using splatters, expressive strokes, and bright colors on a black background. Over 80 paintings of different sizes were created with acrylic and spray paint on plexi glass or glass. The images are mostly portraits and abstract explosion looking pieces done a technique that is strongly influenced by his graffiti background. Nuart ’13: Part III – Vhils

As part of our ongoing coverage (Part I & Part II) of this year’s Nuart Festival (see previous years), we now have some photos of a new piece from Vhils. Choosing from his extensive repertoire of techniques (also see recent torn paper mural in Phlly), the Portugal-based artist went with his tried and true chiseled look with this image of a face he etched into the side of a building. The collaboration with the Beatles will be offered in three variants limited to runs of 50 & 25 pieces and priced at $500 & $750, and sized at 20 x 28″. Previews: Bec Winnel – “Earthly Beings” @ Thinkspace

Later this evening, the Thinkspace Gallery will be opening Earthly Beings, a new collection of works from Bec Winnel in their project room (also see Matt Doust in their main space). Winnel is an Australian artist and accomplished illustrator, who works in graduated washes of watercolor paint, pastel, and pencil. For this showing, she has produced a series of dreamy and lush portraits, of which you can see in some shots from the studio as well as a couple preview images below. Discuss this show here.

This year’s Nuart Festival (see previous years) officially opened this weekend and we have a plethora of new street pieces to share with you.
