Releases: KAWS – “Paper Smile” Print

Although the attention of KAWS fans is focused on Asia right now as the NY-based artist has landed in Hong Kong in preparation for his solo at Galerie Perrotin on the 15th, they are reminded that he still has a ongoing exhibition at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta (covered). Openings: Ryan McGinley – “Animals” @ Team Gallery NY

Last week, photographer Ryan McGinley opened shows simultaneously at Team Gallery’s two New York locations entitled Animals & Grids. We will focus first on the showing on Grand Street where McGinley continued his portraiture featuring nude models interacting with live animals. The artist visited various sanctuaries, zoos, and rescue establishments across the United States, erecting a mobile studio where he collaborated with animal trainers to pose subjects (animal and humans) in bizarrely seductive and symbiotic compositions. Openings: Kehinde WIley – “An Economy of Grace” @ Sean Kelly

Last weekend, Kehinde Wiley opened his latest solo exhibition at the Sean Kelly Gallery in New York entitled An Economy of Grace. Streets: Conor Harrington (Ireland) Part III

For this trip back to his home country, Conor Harrington (interviewed) has painted his third (see first & second) and final piece in an abandoned Georgian mansion in the Belfast city centre. Three must be his lucky number because he also produced the same amount of murals when he was in Ireland (here, here, & here) last summer. Titled the Dilapidated Swordsman, this wall was located in the stairwell and features Harrington’s distinctive colonial style. Discuss Conor Harrington here.

Video: Prune Nourry – “Holy Holi”

As we mentioned earlier, The Invisible Dog Art Center in Brooklyn will play host to an exhibition entitled Holy River by Prune Nourry which is the culmination of a three year project on gender selection in India. Time flies. The opening reception for Bay Area legend Barry McGee’s exhibition at the PRISM Gallery in Los Angeles is almost here. Fans in the area better make plans to be there tomorrow night, May 11th (6-9 pm) as solo shows from Mr. Twist in Southern Cal are pretty rare, especially with the potential of the architectural showspace that he will be able to install his work in at his leisure.
