Streets: JR (Los Angeles) Part V

During the past week, JR (featured) has been hitting the L.A. streets with his signature photographs while at the same time continuing his “Wrinkles In The City” campaign (covered here, here, here and here). Organized by Daniel Salin, this recent JR tour ended with three murals put up by the French photographer around different parts of the Downtown Los Angeles district. The pieces were placed high above the streets but they could be seen from a distance and from different directions. Here we have a shots […]

Steve Gianakos – “New Paintings” @ Fredericks & Freiser

AM recently visited an exhibition before it closed at Fredericks & Freiser in New York featuring new work from Steve Gianakos. Since the 70s, the painter has been known to mix vulgarity with the iconic styles of 1950s children’s books leading to a smirk, shaking of the head, or reddening of the cheeks when viewed by his audiences. This newest show, his fifth with the gallery, is no different with paintings featuring his child characters dealing with sexuality, decapitations, drugs, and worse. More NSFW photos […]

Kehinde Wiley Portrait of Santigold On New Album Cover

Take a look at this cover art for Santigold’s new album Master of My Make-Believe set to be released on May 1st. Along with her photographed conceptually as a Bond-girl and mafia Don, you can also see her painted as an army officer in the background by Kehinde Wiley. The signature stye in which the singer is rendered references 18th-century British artist Joshua Reynolds’s painting of Banastre Tarleton titled Portrait of an Officer, and is Wiley’s first painting of a woman ever. Check out the […]

For this body of work, fans will see a conscious focus on the part of Mr. Harrington on his painterly talents. Also, as seen in these photos, Conor is a creature of minute details. His space is covered with photographic and still life references which are […]

As collectors, it is always interesting to get a look at some “OPP” or “Other People’s Paintings,” especially when you know it will be awesome. Well, here a closer look at his treasure trove of paintings and sculptures courtesy of Kathy Grayson when she visited his […]

After going big on multiple walls (here, here, and here) during Art Basel Miami Week ahead of a sold out showing, ABOVE (interviewed) has surfaced in Cape Town with some new work. The prolific Bay Area-based artist’s latest wall is for Origin Wines, a South African winery that leads one of the largest Fairtrade projects globally.
