Setup / Giveaway: Olek — “I do not expect to be a mother but I do expect to die alone” @ Tony’s Gallery, London

Olek is launching her first UK solo show this evening at Tony’s Gallery in East London. The wall-to-floor installation recreates living quarters, complete with bed, tables, picture frames and other domestic objects — all covered in brightly-coloured crochet. AM has been keeping track of progress over the last few weeks and we’re looking forward to seeing the finished result. The show’s title, “I do not expect to be a mother but I do expect to die alone”, quotes from an appliquéd blanket produced by Tracey […]

Streets: Cyrcle. – “Winter” (Los Angeles)

Last time we saw the Cyrcle. crew working the streets, they created a large scale mural in Culver City (covered), the same spot occupied by such street art luminaries such as Herakut, David Flores and recently Dabs Myla. But now the trio of young artists have moved closer to the  Downtown area of Los Angeles and have finished another wall project which may not be as big as their previous one but one which strongly continues to uphold the strong thematic qualities they’re known for […]

Openings: Eric Joyner – “It’s A Jungle Out There” @ Corey Helford

Over the weekend, Corey Helford presented new work by artist Eric Joyner (interviewed). The exhibition featured a collection of paintings that blended the artist’s attraction to classic sci-fi motifs with a sense of the mundane which often referenced the use of donuts. Other competing factors in his visual imagery include the use of landscapes and the natural environment. The work on hand is amazing to look at and feature a surreal combination of the fantastical and the average. The result is a collection of art that […]

World Tour – Completing the Gagosian Gallery x Damien Hirst Spot Challenge

227 hours – That’s how long it took for AM to travel the globe and complete the Spot Challenge presented by Damien Hirst x Gagosian Gallery. As we broke the news about this unique promotion, we thought, “why don’t we take Damien up on his challenge instead of just reporting on it?” Some of us have long been fans of Mr. Hirst’s spot paintings, so pair that with the opportunity to visit eight awesome cities (Geneva, Paris, London, Rome, Athens, New York, Los Angeles and Hong Kong) and […]

Openings: Evol & Teal – “Femme Fatale” @ Buckwild Gallery

Earlier this month, the Buckwild Gallery brought 7th letter member EVOL and Fame City writer TEAL together for a special event highlighting their different styles and their own brand of art. Titled Femme Fatale, the event was filled with a collection of both prints and original works by EVOL, a group of paintings by TEAL, and special collaborations between the two which touched upon the female portrait as the core idea. EVOL’s style has a watercolor-like quality but it’s impressive to see what he can […]

Streets: Hyuro (Spain)

Another quality mural on the streets has surfaced from Argentinian-born and now Spain-based artist Hyuro. It seems she is maintaining her strong work ethic since her solo show in Zurich at the end of last year with this new piece in Valencia, another wall we just featured last week, and some gallery work for a New York group show. One more look at this wall after the jump…

Teaser: Alex Gross – “Product Placement” @ Jonathan LeVine

Almost a year and a half out from his last showing at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery, LA-based artist Alex Gross (interviewed) will return with a new body of work entitled Product Placement in February. Fusing his special blend of Victorian and Asian references, this collection of paintings for New York will feature commentary on consumer culture. This show will feature 19 new works on canvas, paper and panel, as well as over 20 mixed media pieces involving vintage photographs called cabinet cards. Some images of […]
