Openings: Evol & Friends @ Pictures On Walls

Following his recent installation in London Smithfield market (covered here), German artist EVOL and a full supporting cast of artists took over Pictures on Walls for the Christmas show with installations, sculptures, books and limited edition prints. Other featured artists include Banksy, Barminski, Dran, Tilt, James Cauty, Paul Insect, Wayne White, Might Mo, Todd James, Invader, Cept, Jerome Miller, Pacolli, Victor Van Gaasbeek, Zach Schrey and more. Basel Week Miami ’11: Rubell Family Collection

One of the most prestigious private showings at Art Basel Miami Week every year is from the Rubell Family Collection. This year, the group show culled from their extensive holdings was entitled American Exuberance, a reference to the fact that all artists included were American citizens and living in the States leading to a keen observation of American culture, economy and politics. Basel Week Miami ’11: JR @ M Building

Yesterday, AM stopped by the M Building in Miami to photograph the newest exhibition from French photographer JR. This showing was an Art Basel Week Miami supplement to his current show at Galerie Perrotin and featured photos as well as wheatpasted found materials from his various projects in the past. Basel Week Miami ’11 / Streets: Dabs Myla

Street activity has definitely been strong during Art Basel Week Miami, and this is one of the things that sets it apart from the more prestigious original fair in Switzerland. While walking through the myriad of streets where murals were being put up, we passed by Aussie couple Dabs Myla as they painted this piece. Basel Week Miami ’11 / Streets: Remi/Rough for Graffuturism

We passed by the Kohn Compound yesterday as we strolled through the Wynwood District in Miami and came across Remi/Rough working on one of outer walls and gate. The UK-based street artist was prepping for the In Situ show put on by Graffuturism tonight featuring post-graffiti abstraction for those interested. Basel Week Miami ’11: Andrew Schoultz Summary

Art Basel Week in Miami certainly has seen their fair share of Andrew Schoultz’s work with no less than five opportunities (six if you count his outdoor mural for Primary Flight) to admire the Bay Area artist’s work. Since we are covering Art Basel Week Miami right now, this week’s new artist for our Art Focus is from the PULSE Art Fair showing at the Rena Bransten Gallery booth.
