This past Thursday, Post No Bills gallery held their second gallery exhibit which featured works by the likes of Anthony Micallef, Conor Harrington, Ian Francis, Jonathan Yeo, JR, Mode 2, Paul Insect, Stanley Donwood, Vhils and Zevs. Titled as the European Bailout Show, this exhibition focused entirely on some of Europe’s most interesting artists working today. Openings: Audrey Kawasaki – “Restlessly Still” @ Merry Karnowsky

On Saturday night, the LA art crowd packed the Merry Karnowsky Gallery to see the work of three artists – Femke Hiemstra, Deedee Cheriel, and of course Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed). On display were paintings and cutout drawings all displaying Ms. Kawasaki’s exquisite eye for detail, mastery of her medium (especially in integrating wood grain), and her sensuous touch. It’s well established that will.i.am is a patron of the arts as evidenced by his involvement with the Grammy art shows (2009 and 2010) and music video featuring the work of Shepard Fairey. If you happen to be in Orange County for the US Open of Surfing which started yesterday, make sure you make it over to the Pac Sun booth as they will have some custom surfboards on display as well as live painting sessions all week. Streets: West Hollywood Library Wrapup (Shepard Fairey, Kenny Scharf, RETNA)

Although the new public library in West Hollywood isn’t set to open until the fall, the three large murals by Shepard Fairey, Kenny Scharf, and RETNA are now complete. Billed as an extension to MOCA’s Art in the Streets exhibition, the project (which we have been following) was apparently conceived by Jeffrey Deitch himself and will also include some additional indoor work from Fairey. Streets: Conor Harrington (London)

After gifting his native country of Ireland with three cowboy-themed murals (here, here and here), Conor Harrington (interviewed) has returned to England to continue working on his next solo show. He did find time however to paint this wall in London going back to his signature colonial style. Preview: “Genesis to Revelation” @ Copro Gallery

Tonight, besides Ewelina and Genevive Zacconi’s joint show (previewed), the Copro Gallery will also be hosting a group exhibition entitled Genesis to Revelation. Artists were asked to re-interpret the religious symbology and icons from thousands of years ago about creation and the apocalypse in their own special way. Included in the exhibition are Chris Mars, Naoto Hattori, Stephanie Henderson, Tin, Leslie Ditto, Chrystal Chan, Dave MacDowell, Charles Wish, Vincent Cacciotti, Brian Smith and many more.
