Takashi Murakami @ Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (New York)

When fall began, we kicked off coverage of Takashi Murakami’s concept to create two giant floats in the image of his beloved studio mascots Kaikai & Kiki for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Today, he wished us Happy Thanksgiving from New York as he surprised spectators by donning a flower costume rolling on a little float decorated with his famous “Jellyfish Eyes”. Teaser: Basel Week Miami ’10: Retna – “Silver Lining” @ Primary Projects

As we mentioned in our studio visit feature a couple weeks ago, Retna will be showing at this year’s Art Basel Week. The show entitled Silver Lining (opening Dec. 2nd) will be a completely new body of work including paintings, drawings, and an installation, but check out this huge painting that should leave no doubt that the prominent AWR/MSK member will be bringing the heat to Miami. Preview: Matt Leines – “Time Before Time” @ Galleria Patricia Armocida

It may be Thanksgiving in the United States, but it is art business as usual for the rest of the world. Opening today at Milan’s Galleria Patricia Armocida is “Time Before Time,” the first solo exhibit in Italy by Matt Leines. For the show, Leines will displaying new and old works, documenting his artistic development over the past five years. See preview images from “Time Before Time” after the jump.

Setup / Releases: “Marks and Stencils” and Banksy’s “Choose Your Weapon” Print

What do we spy in the window through which the Marks and Stencils show we mentioned previously is being set up? It looks like the rumored new Banksy print Choose Your Weapon (60 cm x 60 cm, £450.00) which will be released later this month and is based on his recent “Keith Haring Dog” stencil. Streets: Kenny Scharf (New York)

The changing of the guards is in progress as the legendary mural space on the corner of Bowery & Houston in New York’s SoHo is set to undergo a new transformation under the spray cans of street legend Kenny Scharf. The iconic wall which housed the Haring tribute transitioned to Os Gemeos to Shepard Fairey to Barry McGee and now back full circle to Kenny Scharf who was a peer and friend to the late Keith Haring. Teaser: Basel Week Miami ’10: New Image Art

New Image Art’s lineup for this year’s Art Basel Week looks sharp and could be one of the more anticipated offerings at 2010’s art extravaganza in Miami. Releases: Craig Damrauer – “Modern Art” Print

Craig Damrauer, who has always entertained us with his “New Math”, has released one of his most beloved images from that series as a print. Entitled “Modern Art”, the piece basically sums up the reaction of some of the art cynics out there with a nice come back. Offered through 20×200, the limited edition is available here at various sizes and pricepoints for those interested.

Openings: Raymond Pettibon – “Hard in the Paint” @ David Zwirner Gallery

David Zwirner Gallery in New York is currently showing Venice Beach based artist Raymond Pettibon’s newest solo exhibition entitled Hard in the Paint, which is derived from basketball terminology. The collection of works on display feature Pettibon’s signature loose hand and his representations of fragments of American society occasionally emphasized with key text and phrases. Preview: Basel Week Miami ’10: Sanrio 50th Anniversary Show

Fresh off the clamoring success of Sanrio’s 50th Anniversary bash in Southern California, Small Gift Los Angeles (covered), the art exhibition and pop-up store tag team celebration will be traveling down to South Beach next week to coincide with Art Basel Miami Beach. As the cornerstone of the touring event, 50 internationally-recognized artists were selected by curator R.
