Streets: Shepard Fairey (Toronto)

After a recent set of murals realized in Los Angeles, Chicago, Philly, New York, Berlin, and Johannesburg, the tour concluded in Toronto for Shepard Fairey (featured) and the Obey crew. Some of the main pieces were created at the The Gladstone Hotel & Tattoo if you are local and want to hunt these down. Last month, we brought you a look at the murals Aryz, Escif, and Kenor, painted for the WE AArt festival in Aalborg, Denmark. There were other artists who filled out the roster for this phase of the project that will be ongoing for the next several years including Liqen (seen above), Don John, Fintan Magee, Interesni Kazki, Jaz, and Alexis Diaz. Before leaving Los Angeles, UK native D*Face (interviewed) decided to create one more mural for his fans to add to the piece (covered) on the side of the building that that housed his popup show (covered). Mirroring one of the originals that was featured in his exhibition, the new image shows one of his characters looking into the rear-view mirror as he’s driving down a lonely stretch of road. In between setting up for his popup show in New York (more on this later), Conor Harrington (interviewed) took advantage of the hospitality from the L.I.S.A. Project to leave a mark on the streets of the Big Apple (Broome & Lafayette Street). After sharing the first mural with you here, we now have shots of the second piece he was able to work on. Returning to the massive Ace Gallery showspace in Beverly Hills after a successful solo there in 2010 (covered), the Date Farmers will be opening another exhibition tonight entitled Shit Ain’t Funny. Hailing out of the Coachella Valley, the two collaborative artists whose real names are Armando Lerma and Carlos Ramirez will be presenting works that deal with social and political issues of the working class. Previews: Usugrow – “Inkflow” @ Fifty24SF

Tomorrow night (October 4th) in San Francisco, Inkflow will mark the return of Usugrow to Fifty24SF after showing there in 2007 and participating in a group show with his Shinganist crew back in 2009 (covered). Along with presenting his Bay Area fans with his distinctive original work filled with ornate calligraphy and his recognizable skull motif, the Japanese artist will also be releasing a new book titled USUGROW: Works 2007-2013 in association with Upper Playground. This year’s Moniker Art Fair will include a solo entitled Aqua Regalia by Faith47, set to open on the 9th of October. Using different mediums, including graphite, spray paint, oil paint, ink, photography and collage, she usually paints on found objects or discarded documents, transferring the feel of her mural works. This Friday, October 3rd, John Felix Arnold III opens his latest solo exhibition at FFDG. No Destination is Arnold’s final part of his trilogy of exhibitions in 2014 and also marks his leaving of the Bay Area after an eight year stay before he moves to New York. Releases: KAWS – “PRESENTING THE PAST” Print

In less than an hour, KAWS will be releasing a new limited edition off his website entitled PRESENTING THE PAST. Those who attended his current exhibition in Hong Kong (or saw the photos), may have noticed the screenprint hanging in the gallery.
